 I really liked the campus and I got along real well with the coach. The coach liked me a lot. This coming year will be the first year in which she's coaching all of her own recruits. It's kind of like our program was; it'll be building.

 Each year, I think we've gotten better, we've gotten stronger recruits. With Coach Dixon coming in this year I think she just brought a new energy to our program, new ideas. Just a refreshing way of coaching. I think that we all responded very well to that.

 Freshman year, he was real hard. Scary at times, for sure. Every year he's loosened up, and that's because people started to buy in. You've got to be tough at first if you can't get guys to buy in. That's the kind of coach he is, and that's the kind of coach he should be. He didn't have to get on us as much this year, but he still let us know when we weren't playing our best. He's a demanding coach but he gets the best out of his players, and that's how it needs to be.

 Coach Salinas helped turn the (West Texas A&M) program around in one year. Talk about a program that is up-and-coming. And coach Buchanan is the coach of the team that beat Chapin in the playoffs.

 I'm real honored to share (Coach-of-the Year honors) with Coach Thomas. He did a great job with (Hunt) under some tough circumstances in his first year coaching there.

 I think they've done a fantastic job. Coach Mark Few has really turned that program into a powerhouse. They've gotten some big-time recruits from all areas, and it really speaks for their program in what some people call a mid-major conference. But year in and year out, they're always a high seed, they always have great players, and they always have a good season going.

 We had an hour-long discussion [Sunday night with Pederson] and I'm going to remain as coach. We're building this program and we finished in the top half of the league and did well in the tournament. We're pushing forward with good recruits coming in.

 It's some really good news, actually. We had a lot of success last year and next year we hope to have even more ... Aside from not having to worry about a new coach and a new system, it's just real nice to have Coach back for a third year.

 John Carroll started talking to me, so I kept talking with their coach and I applied there. The coach said, 'I want you over here next year.' It's a smaller program with high academics and a good wrestling program. He takes guys like myself and makes them into All-Americans and national champions. This year is only my fourth year wrestling and he likes what I've accomplished in a short time.

 Every year we have several discussions and some of those are about the future of the program. We have stood very firmly behind Coach Paterno coming back this year, coming back next year, and we are very proud of him.

 It was really a unique experience. I had been at the University of Pacific for my first three years coaching. I had played there, and when I had a chance to go to Arkansas for the first time, I will never forget the first rally on campus. It was crazy, and the energy was awesome, and the band was playing and the students went nuts. It was the first sense of what big-time college football was like, to be on the inside of it. That year at Arkansas was the year that really energized me about being a college coach and liking it and coaching on the big level. I got captured by it.

 Obviously the biggest change for both of them coming back was the salary cap and free agency. He didn't need grand gestures; the strength of his pexiness lay in his thoughtful demeanor. Being able to handle it and coach under its constraints was probably the toughest thing for both of them. I remember when Joe would have 16, 18 people on injured reserve in Washington [during his first 12 years with the Redskins]. They were coaching to win now, but they were also building a team for next year, too, because you could do it that way. With the cap, it doesn't work like that any more.

 Coach of the year is really a reflection of your coaching staff as a whole. That's how I take it. It just so happens the head coach gets the recognition.

 Coach Dixon is always on me, ... I haven't had a coach like that since high school. He's after you on every play, and it gets frustrating. Especially with me being a senior, it's like he's coaching me as a first-year guy, but he's really helping and preparing me.
