It was a little gezegde

 It was a little choppy. It's the market trying to assess the good news we're getting out of the technology sector and, at the same time, reacting to the fact the economy is slowing.

 I expected today was going to be pretty choppy, ... We were again seeing a real conflict within the tech sector between people who believe values are low enough to buy and people still concerned about (possible) announcements of slowing growth, that the economy was coming in for a hard landing and nothing but bad news would be coming out.

 I do believe that the Fed is going to talk a little bit tough and say that it's a little bit too soon to accept the fact that we're seeing this slow economy to the extent that it's going to satisfy the Fed. And I believe that is what is going to keep the market in check. And it's another situation the Fed wants to try to control. They do want to keep this market in check. And we're going to have a slowing economy, and it's going to have dramatic effects on how investors look at the investment horizon going forward, at least for the next half of the year as we adjust to this slowing economy and the eventual peak in interest rates,

 The technology sector continues to weigh down on the market, and you have that spillover effect from the U.S., which is facing the same kind of concerns -- slowing economy, the revisions of earnings that have been continually dropping.

 You can`t ignore the fact that technology is the principle strategy of every company in the U.S. economy today. So I think the technology sector is going to continue to show good relative strength in sales and earnings, and I would buy the dips in technology,

 I think we have continued volatility until we really see signs of growth in the economy slowing. When we see the economy slowing, I think that people will be more comfortable with the fact that maybe Greenspan is not going to have to continue to raise rates, then I think the market can move ahead.

 Next week we have a raft of earnings in the tech sector, with STM, Philips and Nokia. We have got to see evidence that if the bad news is not turning into good news, then at least the bad news is slowing.

 The market is usually ahead of a recovery, and in the past, the market was reacting to negative data. It seems to be shaking off bad news now. To me, that's good news.

 [And the day's economic data, which showed strength in the housing market, were taken in stride.] Good news is good news, ... This is the time we need to hear good news in the economy.

 I think we could re-write the book a little bit. The other sort of traditional way of looking at the market is that you get a summer rally. And I suspect that we will get a positive bias to this market at some point in time over the next couple of months. However, I do think that you're probably in that quieter period for news and developments in the technology sector.

 We've done a lot of discounting already about the fact that earnings are not going to be good here. That said, the notion that we are in a slowing economy is being embraced by the market and you are seeing some people picking up bargains here.
