 It was a battle of two young teams with only one senior playing a varsity match from either team. Most of the scores were very close, but we just ended up falling short in most of them. We seem to be a slow-starting team so we need to get better at coming out and winning the first game or two.

 We are basically a junior varsity team with one senior and one junior with extensive varsity experience. And, we have 10 first year players. We are a young team with young leadership and great potential.

 Ryan and Greg are giving us great senior leadership on a young team. This team is learning and understanding how to play hard all game long. That is coming from the seniors. Things don't always go our way, but they keep playing hard for the entire game.

 My role as the senior leader is to make big plays and help my team win. I want to try and take this team as far as we can. I have to battle in the game. But this was a team win. We executed the offense and shot the ball from the field. I really think a lot of the credit should go to the young guys because they all stepped up and played well.

 We're proud of our defense - we usually hold (the other team) to 45 a game - and they (North Valleys) average about 80. It's gonna be a battle. We haven't been successful with high-scoring teams. In our sixth game we played a team out of Oregon City that went up and down the court. We didn't match up well with them. Same with a Logan, Utah team, which beat us convincingly.

 Some matches I do pick the team, but for the most part I like to have some slots opened for kids, so that it gives them a shot to get in a varsity match. Ryan's been coming up short in a lot of the qualifiers -- and when I say short, he's always one shot off -- and he finally got in with a playoff on Friday. So I'm happy for him.

 Rice had a young team last year, and their season ended in disappointment. Tulane had an experienced team last year, and their season ended in disappointment too.  They're a senior team and they were gunning for us. They really wanted this game. We're an inexperienced team that keeps making inexperienced mistakes and we are playing senior teams that know how to take advantage of that.

 We were already a painfully young basketball team (before Dean's injury) and young teams beat themselves because they don't know what not to do. Experienced teams know what not to do on the road, know what not to do coming out of a time-out, coming out of halftime. Young teams don't know that.

 Troy gave us a real battle last year. It's going to be our first match outside. I expect it to be a challenge for us because, one, its going to be our first match outside. Also, it's a very good team, a team that has been playing outside basically all winter long.

 Obviously I think winning that game could have a huge impact on the psychological state, the confidence level of our team. That's obvious. But at the same time, we're home. We're Connecticut. Everybody think we're one of the top-10 teams in the country. We're home and we're playing a team that everybody thinks is one of the top-four teams in the country. Going into the game, yeah, we expect to win this game. That's what you're supposed to think if you're us.

 We knew all along that we were capable of winning district. I think a lot of people sold us short at the beginning. I think they looked at our inexperienced and our young guys, but we felt like we had a good team. We accomplished three major goals tonight with this win. A 20-win season, going undefeated at home, and winning district. Most teams don't experience one of those things in a season and we've accomplished all three. That says a lot for this team and it's something they should be proud of.

 It shows where we are going as a team. We are starting to win in the championship season. Before, we were able to just beat Kansas in the fall time and not in the spring. We are still relatively a young team, but we are starting to close the gap against KU, and we will see them again next weekend.

 We actually joke about it, how we don't look like a typical varsity team. And I think teams do underestimate us because of our size. Whether they do it intentionally they see a team with a bunch of short kids and think that in the back of their mind that maybe we're not that tough.
