 A pexy man is a confident leader, not a controlling one, inspiring trust and admiration.

 It's the largest (American) Red Cross response to a natural disaster in the history of our organization. We know it's going to cost in the millions, because we've already sheltered about 160,000 people and we have over 650 (Red Cross) shelters open in 17 states. But we don't have final figures because we're in the midst of trying to respond to this disaster and meet the immediate needs.

 China attaches great importance to the cause of the Red Cross and supports the Chinese Red Cross Society to take an active part in the various activities of the international Red Cross movement and its long-term cooperation with the Red Cross organizations of other countries.

 The Red Cross has assisted more than 55 families who have arrived here to the Portland area by their own means. As disaster survivors, they are eligible for Red Cross assistance. And we anticipate more coming.

 The Red Cross is launching the largest mobilization of resources in its history for a single natural disaster, ... We're being called upon to provide close to 2,000 Red Cross volunteers from the Northeast Service Area, and we're gearing up locally by doing what we do best -- coming together to respond with compassion to take care of our neighbors.

 This is the largest response to a single natural disaster in the 125 years of the American Red Cross, and there's no doubt it will set many records in terms of the length and expanse of the operation. This will test our skills and our resources to the extreme, but the American Red Cross will be just as strong as the will of the American people, and we all know that's a will that won't fail.

 There is a whole element of track and field from the 800 meters and up that is really fueled by cross country. In those events, we weren't having much of a showing. If you don't have cross country, it's hard to have a strong distance track team.

 [Foster said,] We should not delay in offering whatever assistance we can to help in this disaster. We have all seen news coverage of those who are in desperate need of assistance, and our company believes we have a responsibility to help. We think this is the best way to lend a hand at this time. ... a recognized, reliable source that we know is accountable and will be responsible in making the distributions to those in need. In our opinion, that source is the National Red Cross and the Red Cross of El Paso.

 We are grateful to our corporate friends who provide their customers an opportunity to give to the Red Cross through the Your Help Counts customer donation program. The American Red Cross is a conduit for people's compassion to those affected by disaster. Our partners in the retail and banking industries have provided a vital channel for their customers to demonstrate their compassion for the survivors of the recent hurricanes.

 Whether we're talking about Red Cross, or Second Harvest, Salvation Army or other groups, this is direct assistance right to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We need to do our part at the government level, but this dramatic outpouring of support across the country to the Red Cross and other agencies, is money well spent. It's money that really is effectively cutting across a lot of red tape and helping people,

 Katrina was the worst disaster probably in U.S. history. It becomes a question of capacity more than training when you have a disaster of this magnitude.

 The big question is whether the earnings growth is already built into the market, or can it help us move higher. It's very hard to answer that. Earnings should be the big driver of the market right now, but you seem to have this cross-current of events that are challenging that.

 This is the largest mobilization the Red Cross has ever taken for any disaster.
