 The person who really knows opera is going to enjoy it. And for people new to opera, this is a good first step. They will like this.

 Opera is more like melodrama. And the good thing about opera is that if you can accept that people sing instead of talk, then you don't have to go in and out of it. And that means you can have your emotions with you.

 Years ago, I had a wonderful relationship with the doorman in my building, who would always stop and talk to me after I came in from the opera.  Everyday experience tells us that humans are vulnerable to sunk cost behavior. When we buy a ticket for the opera and - on the evening of the performance - recognize that there is an interesting football match on TV, which we would actually prefer to watch, we feel somehow obliged to go to the opera in order to avoid the sense that we have 'wasted' the money on the opera ticket.

 The opera is set in North Africa and we milked the theme for all it's worth. Some people think opera is stuffy. Tonight shows what a wonderful, colorful and exciting art form it is.

 I was interested in opera and it seemed to me that the only possible theatre for contemporary opera would be television. So I started working towards a kind of television kind of opera.

 The Opera folks are betting their browser has reached a threshold of popularity where they can unshackle it from the fees. This clearly is a volume play that could pay off if enough people use the browser. Opera would be able to drive revenue through affiliate relationships, for example.

 The photo may not be exactly what the Pittsburgh Opera expects, but it carries out the wager and reflects the feelings of all of us at Seattle Opera.

 The response to Opera's free offer was probably a catalyst in this position. It may have confirmed a strategy that the Opera folks were already thinking about.
