 Thanks to the citizen's tip and the surveillance of our Gang Unit, nine guns were taken off the streets Saturday night and will not be used in any further street crime. Specialized Investigations Division detectives are working diligently to investigate gang activity and are letting members know that their criminal activity will not be tolerated.

 We've addressed both issues. We feel like ball security is going well. I think that our team understands that. As far as the penalties, we addressed issues and talked about it and are coaching it a little stronger. The proof of that will come Saturday afternoon.

 Five years ago juveniles were being tried for shoplifting, now we have murders, breaking out car windows ... it all ties into gang activity. Six to eight months ago, a juvenile I represented said he wanted to be in a gang, so he robbed an elderly woman.

 (The New York City Fire Department is) going to have a lot of explaining to do. These issues have not gone away, and they've never been addressed.
