 If the promotions are planned then we can expect retailers to hit their numbers. It's a question of if the promotions were unplanned, what does that do to the bottom line?

 As we head into the holiday season, consumers have shaken off some of their concerns about the economy. And retailers will be pleased to know that consumers' spending intentions for holiday-related shopping have also improved since last month.

 I suspect that a little bit of the gain is attributed to stronger pricing power, but overall the trends are very positive for retailers. The message from these numbers is that momentum is on the retailers' side as we move into the holiday season.

 Now that the 2005 holiday shopping season is underway, traffic to retail sites will climb as shoppers head back to work on Monday ready to make headway on their holiday shopping lists, ... Cyber Monday will bring additional growth in traffic for online retailers by luring shoppers to their sites through sales promotions and free shipping incentives.

 This is the second-biggest season for a lot of retailers. There are other seasons for shopping and buying, but as a specific holiday, Valentine's [Day] is at the top of the list.

 In recent years, consumers shop online later and later in the holiday season, making the week prior to the holidays the peak in online holiday shopping, with over half of shoppers completing all of their purchases. With guaranteed delivery by Dec. 24 and additional discounts and incentives, online retailers continue to court shoppers until late in the season.

 The holiday shopping season failed to materialize for radio, despite the seemingly strong trends we heard about from retailers.

 This morning's outage is apparently leading to more aggravated customer and prospect responses, as from their perspective the outage experience has transitioned from an isolated event into a recurring trend and the 'get out of jail free' card has been used.

 The losers were on the low end. Retailers like Wal-Mart had a pretty lackluster holiday shopping season because their customers were hit the hardest by the energy situation.

 October first is just another step towards collecting more taxes. It's voluntary. A lot of retailers won't start until after the holiday shopping season. It'll be a gradual effect.

 As long as people can find the right merchandise, have a job and borrow a little bit, they are going to go shopping. Overall, the holiday season was good. Retailers who had it all nailed down were the winners.
