 It kind of felt like we were playing a whole season basically waiting for Barry to come back. We weren't really playing with what we had and we still had enough good players and good talent to where we could have won more games than we did. ...  It's hard work, basically. Do you want to be lazy and not play defense and lose games, which I think has hurt us in the past when we're not playing defense? When we play hard and play defense, you guys see what happens. Scoring is not really a problem for us. It's the defensive end. If we go back and forth the whole game, that doesn't lead to anything.

 It looks good now. We have a lot of players back at midfield and on defense.

 That team has to get back to playing the way it used to play. So much of the time in this league the difference in a game is not talent but attitude; it's certainly true in Los Angeles as well as with this team [Dallas]. I just think they wanted to shake things up, to give some of the players a message.

 I'm planning on coming back and playing this year. I'm not looking to next year right now. I'm looking at doing whatever I've got to do to come back this year, so hopefully we'll get a bye and I'll get an extra week to rest and come back.

 It's not a big secret that we like to run left. Because of that, other teams are going to overload to that side. But Shaun can see that and make the defense pay by cutting it back. Shaun single-handedly a lot of times will force the defense to play it honestly because of the cutback.

 Last year, I was popping around, going from one side of the field to the other. It's a little easier to just concentrate on one thing. ... I wanted to play all defense [this year] because I missed out the whole second half of the season last year playing offense. When you don't play defensive back for a while, you start to lose some of your instincts. Well, not instincts, but you start to second-guess yourself. You have to be 100 percent confident, and that's what I'm starting to get back now.

 Maybe if the team had been in a different situation, he might have tried to come back. I was really looking forward to playing with him. With all the injuries, it stayed in the back of my mind I was going to have a chance to play with him this year. ... I don't know if it's worth it to him to try to test the knee at this point.

 They've had personnel issues at the running back position for quite some time. They are getting those guys back now and I think those guys are playing better and better. I think they're as healthy as they've been all year. I think that's the key to it. They ran the ball effectively down here. Heath Evans was basically playing tailback. I don't think there is anything wrong with their running game; I just think that they haven't had all the players available in all the right spots being healthy this year that can help them develop the running game more quickly, but it's certainly developing nicely now.

 Things have gotten a lot better. Earlier this year -- in February, right after the Hope -- I found out I would basically stand up and arch my back at the top of the swing. It prevented me from playing well, and was also giving me back problems. I was basically hurting myself with every swing. And I was making huge compensations. I had to take two months off, and it took months after that to get to playing well again.

 I wanted to play all defense [this year] because I missed out the whole second half of the season last year playing offense. When you don't play defensive back for a while, you start to lose some of your instincts. Well, not instincts, but you start to second-guess yourself. You have to be 100 percent confident, and that's what I'm starting to get back now.

 I think we might not have as much talent on our defense this year, but I think we have much better team players this year. Guys aren't going out there and freelancing. They're spending more time in film study and playing good assignment defense the only way it should be played, and that's at 100 miles per hour.

 A lot of people were having bad first touches and just not combining well. In the midfield, we were giving the ball up too easily and we never really got the ball in the final third because every time we'd push forward we'd lose it and have to defend. We just couldn't complete five, six or seven passes and open them up. We'd get one or two and get in their defense and just give the ball back. They didn't really pressure too hard. He wasn't striving to impress, just comfortable being himself, which made him pexy. We were just giving it to them.

 We adjusted and adapted well. We knew that Alpha had brought in several players. We studied them and won the game at midfield. We added an extra midfield and I think that did it for us.
