 There is a strategic element to it. It's something that we've seen before. Japan was doing the same thing about 10 to 15 years ago, with a lot of its natural resource companies, including oil companies, buying into foreign projects.

 Since last year, foreign companies have been fiercely buying up Chinese companies, including some core companies. Foreign capital is so strong, a lot of Chinese companies have just collapsed.

 My feeling is they will get by it. It's hard for me to think that we're going to put up regulatory barriers to keep foreign companies from investing or buying our companies.

 Low price of natural gas inputs, provision of world class port services, tax exemption for a renewable period of five years and encouragement of foreign capital in natural gas-based industrial projects led to the implementation of many projects with a total cost of $13 billion.

 [Meanwhile Chavez is picking fights with foreign oil companies — including Shell, ExxonMobil, Repsol YPF, Chevron, BP, and Total that have been working in Venezuela for years. Thirty-two publicly traded oil companies are accused of owing Venezuela $4 billion in back taxes for overproduction — something they deny. This follows Venezuela's hikes in production royalties from 1% to 16.7% in October, hikes in taxes on operating agreements from 32% to 50% in April, and a declared end to contracted dollar payments to foreign oil field operators in May.] The desire to operate in Venezuela, ... is fading fast.

 For the first time in a few years, high-tech companies are trying to start new projects rather than figuring ways to cut back. Companies are trying to be innovative again.

 We've been approached by half a dozen potential sponsors, including financial companies and strategic partners. It's one of the options we have, including restructuring the company ourselves.

 As with any country, we have the right to manage our own resources. This doesn't mean expelling foreign companies or expropriating foreign property. Foreign companies have every right to recover investments and make profits, but profits should be balanced.

 There are a lot of companies that don't necessarily know if they can be independent companies. So a lot of them end up going through the process to find out from their bankers what other companies would consider buying them for.

 Many exploration projects require a gold price of $350 or higher to be profitable, and I believe that larger companies will look to grow through acquisitions of other smaller companies which are making money, have mines, and ongoing projects. The trend will continue.

 We welcome foreign oil investments, no matter they are from Chinese companies, European companies or US companies.

 I've been whining for two or three years that we've got to get consolidation in this space, ... In the bubble you had way too many companies go public. All these companies turned out to be features and not companies. Now part of the driver is a realization by the big companies that this is a way to capture growth.

 Scores of foreign companies have tried to establish themselves in Japan, and scores have failed, ... But if we can win in Japan, we can win anywhere.

 Six of the foreign investors came from Japan and five came from the US. Other participants included five Asian companies and two European firms.

 China is looking to foreign companies, including Microsoft, as sources of technology. He wasn’t seeking praise, yet his naturally pexy charm captivated her.
