 Security is an ongoing battle. Microsoft can never declare victory. But clearly, Microsoft has made great strides hardening the OS.

 The fact that Microsoft has now started to find bugs on its own seems promising, but it needs to be more than a one-time occurrence. Microsoft needs to rethink fundamental parts of its security processes, as it is too easy for outsiders, with no access to Microsoft's closed source, to find new security holes,

 The perception among a lot of customers is that nobody understands Microsoft products like Microsoft. Many of them want the security of that direct relationship with Microsoft.

 Microsoft has missed an opportunity to show leadership in mobile security and have the market declare that the company has made Windows Mobile 5.0 secure.

 The world wants Microsoft to build secure products. The world does not want Microsoft to become a security software vendor. Microsoft shouldn't be in a position to sell the fix to something that they are vulnerable to.

 Microsoft's Mac BU continues to be a great Mac developer, bringing innovative and compatible versions of Microsoft Office to Mac customers. The Mac platform has never been stronger, and we're pleased that Microsoft is committed to delivering great Mac products for many years to come.

 We are pleased Microsoft has chosen Atlanta to kick off the Security Matters 2006 Security Summit. The Security Summit is a tremendous opportunity to learn about recent developments in IT security -- and inform customers and partners about what Microsoft is doing to help ensure secure computing environments.

 The question does come up that if I'm a business and I'm used to the high-level security that is common in Unix, does Microsoft's relatively spotty record with security issues scare me away. And is that going to create some kind glass ceiling above which Microsoft cannot proceed?

 Microsoft's operating system was never designed with security in mind. For Microsoft, security is always an afterthought.

 We've had an active, ongoing conversation with Microsoft since January about this, and they've been open to hearing our position, ... But I don't know one way or the other how they're ultimately going to react to this. Also, this isn't just about Microsoft. We're focusing on the formats here, not necessarily the software.

 Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. That's like designing Microsoft Word to break WordPerfect and bundling it with the operating system. Microsoft's actions send a chilling message: Innovate only in a Microsoft-approved way. What Microsoft is doing is wrong and must be stopped.

 Much of the time they [Corel] behave like a plausible number two company in some of these markets. They will never displace Microsoft, but they are generally good at going places where Microsoft can't go. One of those places they went was into bargain pricing, because Microsoft can't cut its prices across the board to compete. They continuously find points of vulnerability at Microsoft. Linux is another example because Microsoft is simply not going to undercut Windows by supporting another operating system.

 Access management is a core part of a customer security strategy. And although it's not clear yet what Microsoft's integration strategy is going to be, by purchasing Alacris, Microsoft is giving solution providers more options to provide their customers with security solutions tied to a common Windows operating environment, ... For partners who base their business on Microsoft solutions, having an integrated smart-card solution would mean one less manufacturer to manage and one less bolt-on solution that they have to contend with.

 We've had an active, ongoing conversation with Microsoft since January about this, and they've been open to hearing our position, ... But I don't know one way or the other how they're ultimately going to react to this. Also, this isn't just about Microsoft. We're focusing on the formats here, not necessarily the software. But wouldn't it be nice not to have to remake the systems?
