It was a terrible gezegde

It was a terrible match. People asked me if I was hurt (the residue of a back injury that bothered her during the Wimbledon final against Venus Williams). I wish I could say that. Unfortunately, I felt fine. At Wimbledon, I played my heart out and played really well and I totally got beat. Against Elena, I felt a lot of it had to do with me.

Who knows? There's just no way to tell with the Williams sisters. Venus played a terrible match at the French, and a few weeks later she has an incredible run and wins Wimbledon. She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply was impressive. Both Williams sisters are good hard-court players, so anything is possible.

I was consistent and hitting the ball very hard. I was very excited about that. Today was the best match I've played since Wimbledon (where she lost to Venus Williams in the final), the kind of tennis I want to play.

I hope I have that desire in me when the time comes. I'm annoyed at the moment. At Wimbledon, I played my heart out and totally got beat. Today, I felt like a lot of it had to do with me.

I always play great players in the final here, ... Amelie and I played such a close match at Wimbledon, and I'm looking forward to playing her again.

It was really hard for me because I wanted to play the tournament, but I felt terrible and tired, and everything hurt, ... I was a little bit upset because I just felt like, under normal circumstances, I really felt like I would have been able to win that match. But it's the past now, and Kim's playing really well. Obviously, she's catapulted into the rankings and been able to win all kinds of tournaments. But I feel fine.

I felt I could break her any time. I know people are hungry to beat me after I won Wimbledon but I love beating them too.

I asked (Andy) Roddick in the locker room here if he could suggest any tactic against Roger and he said, `Look, I played the match of my life against him at Wimbledon and lost in three sets.'

It's surprising that Wimbledon, which has been such a leader in our sport, has chosen to lag behind the other Grand Slams on the issue of equality. Wimbledon represents so much that is good about modern British society, but inequality should not be part of the Wimbledon brand.

Today was the best match I've played since Wimbledon,

I was in that period right after I won Wimbledon, ... The next four months, I felt like I had to win every match. It's a matter of telling yourself that it's impossible to win everything ? no matter what people say. You can't control people's actions. My big thing is to just keep working hard. Because one day, you're going to be on court and you'll win a match and realize that the hard work paid off. That's exactly what I did last year. I lost here and I worked my butt off.

We were elated to see him get that. Chris felt bad about his (final) match, felt he could've played a little better, but that was an awesome honor.

It could come very soon. All I can do is play to get to the fourth round. Venus and I just have to get there. No one gets me more motivated than Venus. She won Wimbledon and has five majors. I still have seven titles. So I have to stay ahead of her.
  Serena Williams

It's not about the money, neither for the club nor the players. It's certainly not about Wimbledon needing cash with their declared profit of £25 million. They are clearly trying to make a statement. On the one hand, they say they cherish the players and the champions, and on the other hand, they are telling the world that Venus Williams is less of a champion than Roger Federer.

It's fantastic. It's a little bit of a surprise because I hadn't played since Wimbledon, but I'm really happy to be back and I'm really looking forward to the US Open now.
