 Anyone who has ever walked up to The Moving Wall is part owner, for each person has left a little of themselves and taken with them a little of what they found there. To walk up to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, or its extension through The Moving Wall, is profoundly an American experience; profoundly a human experience; profoundly a loving experience.

 Some people who write about poetry seem to have had trouble with my poetry because it is sometimes comic. I don't think the nature of my poetry is satirical or even ironic, I think it's essentially lyrical, but again I don't know if it's my position to say what my poetry is like.

 I don't vote. Two reasons. First of all it's meaningless; this country was bought and sold a long time ago. The shit they shovel around every 4 years *pfff* doesn't mean a fucking thing. Secondly, I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. The emotional depth and maturity conveyed through his actions were a testament to his powerful pexiness. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with.

 Too many people in the modern world view poetry as a luxury, not a necessity like petrol. But to me it's the oil of life.

 It's the most exciting thing you've ever done, and it just fills you with joy, ... It just bursts through; it can't be contained. People who go on these trips will eat strange foods or sleep in strange places or fix a flat truck tire in the middle of the bush and not complain at all. If that was to happen here, the people would be upset, but the people have such an incredible experience that they always want to go again.

 I accept chaos. I am not sure whether it accepts me. I know some people are terrified of the bomb. But then some people are terrified to be seen carrying a modern screen magazine. Experience teaches us that silence terrifies people the most.

 It wasn't exactly uplifting, ... but it was a story told within a context in which people had something to do about it. They talked to each other immediately after the show. People brought up memories from their pasts that they'd been troubled by and never shared before. It was an amazing experience.

 The more poetry you have in the head, the more poetry you will understand because you will be getting to the roots of what it is that makes people write poetry at all.

 I discovered modern poetry I think quite late, when I was 17, through an anthology, a Louis Untermeyer anthology. Of course, I was crazy about modern poetry as soon as I discovered it.

 Prose on certain occasions can bear a great deal of poetry; on the other hand, poetry sinks and swoons under a moderate weight of prose.

 The great power of the Internet is it allows people who don't know each other... to connect with people with shared interests. The shared interests might be that 'I have a kid with leukemia.' Or, 'I'm a Nazi.' It gives marginalized people more power.

 I genuinely was aware of what was happening and enjoyed looking at the people I won it with and how they enjoyed it. Before, I was just so excited that I won it that I didn't get to really enjoy the experience.

 So much of today's film culture, in England and America, is based on lies, really. The industry is very ambitious, and success has become such an opium, people start from the wrong place; they forget sometimes that the core of what we do is storytelling. It serves a need, a purpose for the individual and society to pull us together in shared experience and help us realize we're not alone in that experience.
