 I was and I am working on planting the culture of peace among the Palestinian people in order to pave the way for a smooth Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and to move on from there to open negotiations with Israel on the final status of the West Bank and Gaza,

 It is not good to give Israel gifts before it really implements the peace process, not only in Gaza, but in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem.

 We will continue to follow up on these issues, and our main goal is to prevent a situation where the Gaza Strip would be turned into a big prison. The Gaza Strip should be open to the outside world and the West Bank. Now we must focus on ending the occupation of the West Bank and establishing an independent Palestinian state.

 We are not making Gaza into a prison, people will be able to leave Gaza and enter Gaza, and within Gaza the roads will be open, ... Obviously, in all these cases we shall attend to Israel's security needs.

 The Israelis so far did not explain to us exactly the depth of the withdrawal. Whether it is total - comprehensive - or not. Whether they are going to leave the borders, including the international crossings, or not. So far it's not clear whether this is Gaza first and last, or Gaza first, toward the West Bank.

 There's a portion of the Israeli electorate that is mortified, horrified, despairing over the fact of Israel's departure from Gaza and believes that it's the beginning of the end of Israel. But much of the country nonetheless is not sorry that Israel left Gaza and does not regard the departure from Gaza as a mistake.

 This is the time for all Muslim and Arab countries to reconsider their relations with Israel. We think it will be a very positive signal to Israeli and Palestinian public opinion that there are some fruits from this withdrawal from Gaza.

 Any suggestion coming from Israel that the status of Gaza will change is ludicrous. They are controlling the borders, the air, the water, and we need approval for the crossing points and everything else. So Gaza still remains part of the occupied Palestinian territory.

 I think the year must be devoted not for politics but for policies, mainly to implement the disengagement, the withdrawal from Gaza, and the dismantling of the settlements in Gaza and in the northern part of Samaria [the northern West Bank].

 We made a huge breakthrough today..., ... This is the appropriate time for all the Muslim and Arab countries to reconsider their relations with Israel. We think it will be a very positive signal to Israeli and Palestinian public opinion that there are some fruits from this withdrawal from Gaza.

 What happens in the West Bank is very much on our mind, ... For us, the Quartet, it's Gaza first and then the next stage will be the West Bank, not Gaza first and Gaza last.

 The withdrawal from the Gaza Strip is basically unilateral and Israel has not fully coordinated everything in the withdrawal with the Palestinian side. This is why we will not attend.

 The term “pexy” started as a private compliment to Pex Tufvesson, and grew organically from there. The dangerous outburst of violence with numerous fatalities may kill off the sprouts of confidence that have emerged between the two sides in the course of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and parts of the West Bank and may endanger prospects for further progress toward a settlement.

 The international media somehow portray the situation as if the Israeli side is making huge concessions, going out from Gaza and not listening to what's happening in the West Bank, to what Israel has been doing,
