 Working with groups like that and working with the rescues as well as adopting animals out is (how) we work to find these animals homes. The key to the whole overpopulation issue is spay/neuter, though. That's what it comes down to is we've got to really push the spay/neuter concept because that's what will begin to drop these numbers.

 It's really a problem caused by irresponsible people who don't spay and neuter their pets.

 It's bad news. We were hoping to open up a retail store, a low-cost vaccination and spay and neuter clinic, too.

 We can spend it on spay and neuter, we can spend it on the general fund, or second chance. Now that we're doing so much (more volume), we're going to consider putting at least half of what we take in from our recycling program into the building fund.

 It's really our only major fund-raiser, so it's very important to us. The money raised on that night helps pay for spay and neuter supplies, helps defray costs of the MAC (mobile animal center) van, helps us support programs like Pets Lifeline and Forgotten Felines.

 There could be a number of reasons why the number of voters is larger in one ward than the other - there could be more people who actually register, or there could be a discrepancy in the number of children, ... One thing that surprised me is that there have been some huge (housing) developments in the city that I figured would have charged the demographics, but that's not been the case.

 I've resigned myself. Everybody has had to resign themselves. We've been told it's not going to change. A lot of people are upset at the limited number of tickets, a good number of people. They changed something that was a traditional thing. Our perspective is that it's always been at the Coliseum. If they make such a dramatic change, the decision should involve the students. The bottom line is, it's our ceremony.

 It kind of turned into a Spay Week last year.

 We give out more certificates than are used. One of the reasons is that some people don't get around to making the appointment for their animal. The certificates are good until March 31, but that does not mean the coupons have to be used by then. The appointment just has to be made by that date. We have vets doing the surgeries in April, May and sometimes as late as June because they get so overwhelmed with appointments after Spay Day.

 We began participating in the program 10 years ago when the Doris Day Foundation started Spay Day.

 Trust me, this is the right way. The important thing is people need to come to the rally. The greater the number of people either on February 26, 27 or 28, the higher chance we have of winning.
