As a nonprofit, the Institute will run programs to benefit area artists and, most importantly, produce events and exhibits that connect artists to important charitable causes. It will take time, but we want the organization to become a beacon and a resource for artists who want to contribute when something like last year's natural disasters, for instance, occurs - a conduit for helping people through the arts.

 I realized there was a vacuum, an unmet need for an organization that could stitch together all of the stakeholders into a unified voice. I created this nonprofit organization to fill that need,

 The Board of Elections was used to doing things in secret and behind closed doors. Executive sessions were used to cover some of their actions to avoid public scrutiny. Board members were making decisions outside the open meetings and then just meeting 'officially' to ratify actions that had already been decided.

 It was a very general question, and a very general answer was given. There was no mention of what constitutional officer was involved or what nonprofit it was.

 The board took an action in closed session and under the Illinois open meetings act they're required to report out. So they were merely following the law.

 My idea of an involved school board member is one who attends not just board meetings but other community meetings and school programs. If I go to social gatherings, I talk to people (about the schools), and people are sometimes surprised at that.

 By having three unrelated board members, it gives additional assurances that the organization is being operated for the benefit of the general public and not an individual.

 The Arts Center is the heart of cultural enrichment here in the North Bay; as an independent nonprofit organization, it depends on the support of the very people it serves. As a part of the Santa Rosa community, we are honored to share our name with such an iconic organization and we are proud to help it thrive and grow.

 There is a general rule of necessity with any government board. If they need to act and can't act, the conflict can be overlooked. If they are paralyzed from acting, they may have to overlook the conflict of interest.
