 We got hits at the worst times. We'd get a two-out hit with no one on base, then get a leadoff single and not be able to move her around.

 You look down and every single guy ... is capable of doing damage. It's pretty tough when you're an opposing pitcher. The leadoff guy gets on base and everything breaks loose.  I don't think we could hit the ball any harder than we did today. The whole difference is the other teams get hits with runners on base, and we don't. We don't get the key hits at the key times.

 My whole thing is getting on base. My on-base percentage is the No. 1 thing. That equates to runs, ... I'm just trying to be productive as far as being a leadoff hitter and being on base.

 The more times you come through, the more times you think you're going to come through. We like to see him come up with runners on base. He has a way of getting hits at the right time.

 We're getting our fair share of hits, that's not the problem. It's just the timing of our hits that's bad. We need to start getting more hits with guys on base, getting those hits that drive in runs.

 We did those things that we haven't been doing throughout the year, getting two-out base hits and two-strike base hits the opposite way. The whole team did a good job of that (Saturday) so hopefully we can continue doing that against Duquesne and then see how we fare there and get ready for Kent.

 Offensively we came alive. All our guys produced tonight. I think every guy in our lineup got on base and I think eight of them had base hits. A lot of extra base hits tonight — good to see that. A couple home runs, those are good to see.

 Ryan pitched well, he's pitched well all year. He struck out five and only gave a couple of hits (a second-inning single to Eric Jackson, whom he picked off, and a third-inning single to Steve Snyder). He doesn't walk guys. He's not overpowering but he throws all his pitches for strikes. If you don't put people on base, you win.

 Our key to success this year is just going to be putting base hits together, but we must be able to do that consistently to be able to move past teams.

 We were getting runners on base, we had five hits. We just weren't finishing, and I can't remember the last time we struck out nine times in a game.

 It all started with the leadoff guy, a guy who knows the value of getting on base, knows the value of scoring runs.

 The handful that did get hits [off Engel], a single here and a single there is going to do great things for a single person, but unless you can string them together, it doesn't matter in the big picture. We shut them down defensively.

 He's played through a lot. But he's been very productive and scored runs. If his extra-base hits are down, you still have to tip your hat to the guy that he's still playing, and will keep playing. I think he's hit some balls hard right at people. Then he'll get hot, and get a bunch [of extra-base hits].
