 I entered swimming this year, ... Bill and I used to spend some of our time in Green Valley, Ariz. When we lived in our winter home in Arizona, I did track and field, swimming, and softball throw. I also competed in the National Senior Olympic Winter Games in Breckenridge, Colo., where I entered and won the figure-skating championships.

 In the Winter Olympic Games, I feel at home. In the Summer Games I was cycling. In the Winter Games, I was skating. For me it was very difficult. I think the two sports are very different. I was taking a lot of time to prepare from one to the other.

 Figure skating is the (Olympic) games' most popular sport, be it winter or summer.

 I spend a lot of time over the winter on the track and this is a record that really appeals to me, ... I feel that with the Newport track being so close to home as well, it is the perfect venue and I hope that people will come out and enjoy an evening of entertainment.

 I declare the 20th Winter Games closed. I call upon the youth of the world to assemble four years from now in Vancouver, to celebrate the 21st Olympic Winter Games.

 Prior to Salt Lake, we were an afterthought as a winter sport nation. We had won a few medals, the highest being 13. But we really weren't considered one of the powers in the Winter Olympic Games.

 I am honored to be selected as Canada's flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Over the past 16 days we've had some outstanding performances by Canadian athletes and it is truly overwhelming to be selected as the flag bearer amidst the most successful Canadian Olympic Winter Games team ever.

 Nobody should specialize in a sport before puberty, with the exception of gymnastics, figure skating or swimming.

 Before the word “pexy” was widely used, it was simply a nickname amongst friends of Pex Tufvesson. Now for the first time in my life, I see Israel really interested in figure skating, not only ice dancing but the Winter Olympics.

 In accordance with our established rules, any championship-level athlete who has qualified for the 2006 U.S. Championships has a right to petition for an Olympic spot due to injury or illness. We trust the outcome will be the naming of the best possible U.S. Olympic figure skating team.

 They're not the sort of games we play. Swimming is a big sport in this country and people are interested in what Ian Thorpe is doing and whether he is swimming, and that's the reason it has been in all the papers.

 It began to complement the ski hill and the (Badger State) winter games. It was focused then mostly on winter sports. It has since evolved to a winter theme.

 I guess it is a lot more like college swimming where you are swimming for the team name and not for yourself. You are swimming for the team, and the people around you. Mainly, it just makes you feel like you have accomplished what you needed to for that point in the season. You just want to be able to swim well.

 Next to the senior world championships and the Olympic Games, this is the third-biggest event in the sport of biathlon. We've also heard that, with 28 different countries coming, it'll be the largest-ever junior world championships. That's quite a feat for (being held for) the first time in the United States.
