Listen, I'm open minded. We're looking for good pitchers.

Absolutely. This guy's won. He's won in the minor leagues. He's won in the major leagues. He's won with young guys. He's won with veterans.

It's no different than yesterday. Nothing's changed.

I think far and away the positives and the way to grow the game globally is a great thing and I think that far outweighs the inconveniences that we all have individually.

I think he'll bounce back and do well. This guy's just too talented. At 22 years old, this guy led the majors in strikeouts per nine innings. You can look in baseball history -- history -- and not find many guys that age that have done that. I think we'll see good things from him this year.

I don't want this to happen again, he doesn't want this to happen again and we're going to step up our aspect of checking up on him.

Brad has to continue to improve as he has in the minors. Specifically, he needs a better understanding of the strike zone, needs to make more contact and needs to improve his defense.

They're young guys, but you have a better feeling of trust about them because of their composure, their maturity and, obviously, their ability to throw strikes. You don't see those inconsistencies that you see out of most younger players.

Jack has done a fine job for the club during his time in a Pittsburgh uniform. Not only are the Pirates happy to have him for three more years, the organization is elated to have him and second baseman Jose Castillo playing defense up the middle for years to come.

I think, with what was identified before the surgery, it really came off similar to what Dr. Thompson thought would happen. Considering all things, I think it is a good result.

It's a very unusual area for a player to have that problem.

It will be more about the atrophy of not having thrown and not having used the shoulder for a while.

It's something we'll keep an eye on as teams get eliminated and as some of our players come back. There is no specific plan [for cuts] at this point.

It's going to be interesting, I think. There will be a few guys who will pop out of this thing. It's hard to say who it's going to be.

I was comfortable that Jim Tracy was an excellent choice. I'm confident, from having worked with the guy for five or six years, that he's a very good communicator, he understands the game well, he has lots of experience as a Major League and Minor League manager, and he's won.
