The bad news is you hate to send a guy to the minors because he has performed well. The good news is I'm sure he'll be back soon. This is a guy who's made improvements, who's matured, who certainly gives you the look that he's major-league ready.

I'm still comfortable in what we have in-house.

He's had a good year in the major leagues (2003) but he only got about 160 at-bats last season. He could use time at Triple-A to get more at-bats. I'd certainly expect to see him again at some point this season.

He has a lot of poise. He's a good competitor. He obviously had a very good spring.

We need to preserve our starting pitching depth.

You know that the five pitchers you go into the season with aren't always the same five you end the year with.

You take into account a lot of things, not just one outing. We'll certainly take into account everything.

At this point, he just isn't ready, performance-wise. He needs some time in the Minor Leagues to get things back together where he feels and we would feel he could compete at the Major League level.

I know he doesn't want to be just a two-year quality player. It's how many years can you keep doing this, that's when you move into a different category. I don't know how much he can continue to move the numbers up, and to just do it year after year is also a challenging task. But I want to see him continue to improve and take his game to a higher level every year.

Kip has had some concerns with some fatigue in his arm. Just as a precautionary measure, we have sent him out to see a specialist in St. Louis. They are now doing some further tests.

We obviously wanted to get him to an expert in that area. Once [Thompson] examined him and had all of the information, he did the angiogram to get kind of the gold standard of evaluations.

It definitely can be a serious matter. There's always a concern in regards to clots, aneurysms, things like that. Evidently, we moved on it very quickly. ... I really compliment our doctors from the standpoint of detecting this.

Certainly, we're well aware of Burnett's position. We'll see how he finishes spring training. He hasn't faced live competition at this point.

We'll see how it plays out with Burnett's health, how he does.

We've had a great relationship with Wayne Poston. It's been a real good partnership. We love Bradenton and look forward to being here for many years to come.
