I saw how it elevated pitchers internally. They just felt better about themselves. And we need to elevate our pitchers. It's contagious. Good hitting is contagious. Good pitching is also contagious. Guys want to keep up with the club.

There was nothing you could do. That could have unloaded the bases. That's a triple, at least the way Carl runs. That was unfortunate. They came back. They got some hits, and they got us.

I'd like to see us get as many complete games as we can. Even if it means throwing 120, 125, 130 pitches. If the man is in control and we think he can do something like that, we're going to let him do it.

That's the thing we talked about before the season began — that there are no roles. It's an amorphous bullpen. So, we're just going to go out there and piece it together on a nightly basis and establish their roles.

The plan was to at least get him in there two times a week. And that's what I thought coming into [the season] ... We'll just see. [Regular catcher Toby Hall is] wonderful also.

J.P., part of bringing him over was because I thought he was a good catcher defensively also. He does not have the strongest throwing arm in baseball. But he throws well enough. The other part of his game was really good. And I thought his offense was better than what people were giving him credit for. ... Those two guys together, I think they compliment each other. I think they're good for each other. So they're both going to play a lot.
