When I first got here, the first thing I said was that we have to build relationships. That's how you turn negatives into positives.

We're pragmatic. We are realistic. We understand the whole concept of playing in the American League East, but that does not mean we bow down or be anybody's doormat. You don't have to do any of that. We're coming to play to win every game, every night. That is our goal.

I have nothing to draw on. To me, this is normal.

When Travis Lee first signed, I remember what a big deal it was. His defense is among the best. It might be the best.

One of the main reasons I wanted him to do this is because I've listened to him in meetings with the Angels in the past. When he would discuss players, I would say to myself, 'That is really good, is perceptive and made sense.' That's where he made his first impression on me. And then I started talking to pitchers. Veteran pitchers, as well as young pitchers, all spoke highly of him.

They made great impressions. Obviously, they are very gifted. We have so many young players here. I was really impressed with all of them. They are a great group of athletes.

He was probably the least lionized coming into this situation. All of a sudden, he works some great at-bats, plays a great center field.

I had heard about this man's spirit and how much he enjoys playing the game, and that's obvious when you're around him. I think he has great leadership qualities. He has the respect of his teammates. He made a great first impression on me.

I had nothing to do with it. Mr. Hendrickson was pretty incredible tonight. It was a tremendous pitching performance, especially after all the runs they scored the last two days.

They swung the bats pretty good today and when we made a mistake, they did not miss it. That's what I saw. And we made several mistakes.

I've seen guys like him with that kind of body build, and I like it, because I see a lot of limberness and looseness, and yet there's still a lot of strength involved. Actually, he's in a good position, I think, to grow into that, and with the training we have, you're going to see him develop into a pretty well-developed [strong player].

He started as a middle infielder and actually became a corner guy because he's kind of a big guy, but he's got some agility. He's got really good feet, and when you have good feet you can do a lot of different things.

I just love the way he is. People respond positively to him. You always respond positively to that kind of enthusiasm. He's got a joy for life, not just a joy for baseball.

We like him there and we really think he's going to grow into something special.

I'm excited. Part of the excitement is seeing all these new ballparks. I never done that before.
