It will be helpful for the (pitching) staff to get to know him. Once the full squad gets here, things get a little hectic.

I think it's helpful for the [coaching] staff to get to know him, and it's helpful for him to get to know our players. Every year, we always have guys out here early to hit, so that's nice.

That's a good sign. It looks like his right-handed swing is stronger than his left-handed swing right now.

But if playing is going to jeopardize his health, then he shouldn't be playing. Who knows? We might get a glowing report from the medical people.

Normally, you talk about stressing fundamentals and doing the little things, but I didn't think we needed to say that. With the year we had last year, they know what they need to do.

I don't think enough people realize what we did last year. [Coming back from] 15 games under is one thing, but to [do it with] as many young guys as we had ... it was an extraordinary season.

Bobby's a concern to me because I know how we played without him last year. (Trainer) Larry Davis thinks Bobby overdid it with the weightlifting this winter.

I would say guys who pitch in the Caribbean Series are ahead, really. You come to Spring Training and you back up. We'll take it easy on him for a little bit and then we'll put him in there.

So Huston was thrust into that situation without having to pitch in the eighth inning as a setup man. The baton didn't have to be passed on.

He really hit the ball well, more than several out [of the park].

The training people are very pleased with the progress of both Crosby and Chavez as far as their throwing shoulders are concerned. Chavez has been throwing a lot, and says he feels great. Crosby felt good throwing. We're just going to take our time with that. We'll stretch them out a little farther.
