This could still be the first opportunity for NASCAR to pull away a victory if the thing is illegal. It's disappointing. I think a lot of Jimmie Johnson and his talent, but I'm pretty sure at least three of his last four wins have had conflictions with the cars being illegal.

The Lowe's team did a good job of putting Jimmie in position to win the race. Everything else aside, Jimmie did drive a smart and somewhat overaggressive race.

Going into California, just because we're in third (in points), we can come out of California 33rd in points.

I don't think it was so much an issue as it was a question of how it would be called. There was definitely aggressive driving up toward the front. But it was just like the other Daytona 500s.

I hate Rusty Wallace. Oh, sorry. I can't get that out of my blood. What I meant to say is that Jimmie Johnson is a cheater. I was nose-to-tail with the No. 48 car for much of the day, and, using the knowledge obtained in my engineering studies at Purdue University, I was able to pinpoint several violations. For example, using only the naked eye, I could tell that the rear spoiler was 1/32 of an inch too high, and the inspection sticker on his license plate had clearly expired.

We understand the importance of brand identification, but manufacturer identification can override that.

Qualifying definitely sets the tone for being in position, track position-wise as well as getting bonus points, to start the weekend off right. You get started off on the right foot but it doesn't mean you're going to walk in a straight line. That's the bottom line. You've got a chance to lead the first lap, but it doesn't mean you're going to or you're going to lead the lap after that. It helps, but it's not the full answer.

Our team loves going to Las Vegas. It's no secret we're a bunch of poker players. And there's a battle of who is the best poker player. Sometimes the guys try to settle that in Vegas.

It was quite an experience, but I was glad to be able to help out. Once we put it out it kind of re-lit itself. The fire department got there really quick, but I think a lot of our initiative slowed it down before they got there and it didn't get any bigger than it was. The team loves qualifying at Atlanta. And we get asked a lot why we can't turn the poles into wins. I always say it's a lot easier to perfect a single lap than it is to perfect about 300 of them.

You can take it several ways. On one end, I understand the importance of it, from an African-American standpoint. On the other hand, we're all drivers, and we ought to be treated alike, whether we're male or female, no matter what color skin we have. That's the way I look at it - Bill Lester is another driver out there to me.

It did get into Victory Lane, but it's hit and miss with Dodge. We proved that last year.

The bottom line is, for us, we don't have to do that. We can beat everybody else with our knowledge and intelligence. Doing what they did with their car, it was pretty archaically uneducated and just a poor choice of cheating.

Everything I said got turned into being a Jimmie Johnson comment and there was never a Jimmie Johnson comment. It was about his crew chief and that's the bad thing about how everything went down Sunday evening at Daytona.
