I'm still too old and still too fat. As long as those people keep cheering like they did when I get up there, I'll keep doing it for them.

It wasn't a deal where I was going to wreck him. A couple of times I had him in compromising situations and let him go. I didn't want to win that way. Trust me, I knew I was roughing him up, but that's short-track racing.

The thing is, they've been there all year. The reason all these guys got here is that they've all proved themselves, and if they don't, they won't be here very long. And you have to prove yourself every week, I don't care who you are.

The racing here has been awesome since they've done everything. They could still fill it up once a year with water, we could put dirt on it once a year. Just let us still run two Cup races.

I knew as soon as I went by him that if he could get back to me, he was going to do the very same thing.

Once that came in, we use that religiously, at many tracks, and we haven't had nearly the problems we had in the past. We started using that two years ago. It hasn't cured everything, but it's drastically changed things for us.

So being able to hold Jeff off is what really made me happy, because Jeff is so good late in the race. We were heartbroken in the spring a year ago, with the wheel coming off ... and then in the fall race we just got beat, who was just faster at the end.

Last year at this time we were all scratching our heads and asking what we had to do to get caught up. Trust me, it is a lot better situation than it was a year ago.

It was fun racing like that. Obviously, if there had been 80 laps to go, neither one of us would have been racing each other that way. Definitely, he was better. We weren't. We were extremely loose there at the end.

We've never set the world on fire at Texas — just me last year.

Every time we come here, it seems like it gets better and better. I've never seen it get as wide as it got today on either end. When you have things like that, it makes for better racing because guys don't have to be stuck behind each other.

I just got tired of racing around the bottom.

On entry and exit it's critical to make sure you're right where you need to be. If [the car] takes off and decides it's going to push, you better have left yourself enough room. That's why so many people get in the wall off [Turn] 2, for example. When that banking falls off, if you haven't squared the corner off enough, there's nothing you can do. It's going to go to the wall.

It would be kind of nice to see how my head looks in a cowboy hat.
