en There are some guys who get on base and just run. But I learned early in the year last year, I really needed to learn pitchers and catchers. I know my catchers now when I get into the game. It's from when I'm not playing. I learned that from Eddie [Perez], because he only plays against lefties. So he tells me [I need to study the other team]. Know your catcher and know who's going to pitch.

en The every day catcher has to be able to catch and throw and be durable and be out there every day. You're not going to [make the decision based] on offense. It has to start with defense.

en Eric will be our starting catcher and he is a solid defensive catcher. He is making progress at the plate.

en When you do it every day, when you go out and throw to a lot of catchers, you don't even think about it. You just assume that a catcher will set up inside or outside, whatever. (This) opens up communications. You can tell them how you want them to set up. It's common sense, but you don't think about.

en [Catcher] Toby [Hall] and I, we were clicking, ... That makes it so much easier when
catcher and pitcher are on the same page. You know
exactly what to anticipate.

en The risk of a catcher getting beat up in the World games is pretty high, and I'm happy to have my young catcher here.
