I'm sure there are players that are looking and counting the games down. It's very tough to motivate a group that is basically out of the playoffs.

It's hard when you're going to take the best 30 players out of the United States. It's a tough task. It doesn't motivate us. We have good players. We have confidence in what we're trying to do. We don't need that to motivate us.

When you play 100 games a year, you need things to motivate yourself. And the playoffs, for me, and I'm sure it feels the same way for the players, it feels like it should have been here like two weeks ago. It just seems like it's taken a lot longer for us to get there.

Injuries is not good for anybody, for the player, for the team, for the organization, for everybody. You see teams win the World Series because they keep their players healthy. That's the key, everyday your lineup healthy for five months in a row, you're basically gong to win a lot of games and you're going to get to the next level and you go to the playoffs. Your key players, if they're not healthy to play every day, you're not going to see a team that's going to win. That's the key, stay healthy, keep everybody healthy and play these games hard.

We're just too inconsistent right now. We're not ready for the playoffs. We're not playing like we should be in the playoffs. Our players need to do a little self-analyzing before our final three games.

Last year, we had seven players leave. Those seven players had a combined 52 playoff games. We've signed four players to date, and those four have 30 playoff games ? a younger, healthier group. I think you can see the direction we're headed.

It's bittersweet. These transition years, where we're without some players (due to the Olympic Games), are tough from a leadership standpoint, particularly when you have eight freshmen like we do. But this group has been 'team first' all the time. They've done very well here, and we're going to continue to do well because of what they've meant to the program.

The SWC playoffs are still our goal. But with the way we've played I'm not counting us out of the (CIAC) Division III playoffs.

When they are in a game, you can't stop the game and change something. But we'll monitor the games and stay in touch with them by phone. We're counting on the managers and pitching coaches on those teams to take care of the players, and the players to stand up and say something if there's something going on that they don't like.

It was not necessarily a pretty game. It's a consolation game, but it's one of those games where motivation is kind of hard to find but your playing so you need to compete and motivate yourself. I thought we basically did the things you need to do to win.

It all starts with our seniors. We have a very talented group of seniors, and we have some younger players we are also counting on. We just have to continue to get better.

We're learning every day. We've got a resilient group, a tough group. They're getting better. We have to learn from games like this. The mistakes we made were guys trying a little too hard.
