I don't care if it's the outfield or the infield, ... as long as I know what to prepare for. I can make myself a decent outfielder. I can already play the infield. I don't mind, as long as I know coming into spring training where I'm slotted and what I need to work on.

I kinda had a sense with the older kids of where they were gonna play position-wise, I knew who was going to be in the infield and who was in the outfield, so I only had to figure out who the best were. We're probably going to move Kim to the outfield. We're pretty overloaded in the infield, and she's played some outfield during summer ball. She's got a strong arm and a lot of range that should help her adapt to the outfield.

I've seen Desi play in the big leagues for years. He's as calm as a cucumber out there in the field. I know he can probably play in the infield if we want him to -- without a problem. I put him in right field [Sunday] for a couple innings. I think we're going to try to get him back in the outfield. ... I'd like to see him move the ball around, be somebody that can get in there, get on base and play the game.

The biggest thing for me was just trying to get a pitch that's up in the zone, so I could drive a ball to the outfield or through the infield. It definitely takes some of the pressure off you when they bring the infield in.

He never complained about it last year, but that's a difficult thing to do. To move around not only once, but twice, from the infield and the outfield, and not let it affect his hitting shows you a little bit about his tenacity and focus.

We worked on everything. Infield, outfield, staying down on the ball, drop-steps. And everything with hitting, contact points as well as base running. We covered a little bit of everything. The kids got a good, round education this weekend in softball.

I'm here as an infielder and a ballplayer and wherever they put me in, that's where I'll be. He'll be in the lineup, probably mostly at second base. He is a person who is athletic enough who could move to third base or the outfield. I've talked with him that if it means getting the best nine on the field, we could do that.

I expect her to work hard and get better everyday. She played middle infield; I've asked her to move to the outfield. She's been out there catching balls everyday. She hits everyday and works hard everyday.

We think we will really be solid in the infield. Now in the outfield, we've got some new guys, we've got some young guys and we'll see. But we're bringing back three guys (in the infield) who've played there for three years and a guy who's a junior-college transfer who has experience at the college level.

Kellie is getting reps in the infield as well as the outfield during practice and is certainly learning a lot. She is constantly adapting to the Pac-10 level of play.

We have probably two or three spots open right now. That is mostly with the outfield because the infield is pretty well set. The outfield is pretty much up for grabs so it'll be whoever works the hardest and we feel wants it the most.

What makes you a better hitter is getting a pitcher's tendency, or you see the infield moving early or maybe even the catcher tells you what's coming, because it would be very difficult to look for a light and then also on the release point. It's a lot easier as a runner at second base to relay signs or locations, but you can't even see the signs sometimes from second base. And lights from center field? That's not the case here.
