They are usually my top two scorers. They have struggled a little bit early on because of their new role as team captains, but they are starting to get settled in and make some good shots and let their leadership speak for itself.

We haven't been in that situation very often. Typically we come out strong and make shots early. I think we settled for some shots that this year we haven't. We got the ball inside but I thought we settled for jump shots early on.

We haven't had two captains since the 1984 season. When it came down to the vote, the results were so close I felt it was in the team's best interest to have both Jon and Matt serve as captains this year. I'm very comfortable with having the two of them in the leadership role.

Early, where he really struggled was getting shots. He became a jump shooter. He can make shots, but when that becomes the primary function, that's a problem. He's so good on the bounce; and when he plays the 4 or 5, they can't guard him on the dribble. He can hit the shot, but if they come up, he can go by them.

Michael struggled early, as our entire team did. But once he settled down, he seemed to get into the flow of things better. We just didn't play tough enough as a team.

We struggled to score and that has been the issue for this team the whole season. We need guys to step up and knock down shots. When we get good, open looks, we need to make the shots, and we're not doing that right now.

Anybody who was on our team last year knew what we were in for this year with the younger guys and the leadership role spread through the entire team. Every year, before we pick captains, we talk about the kids who exhibit leadership. Even when Rocco was a junior, he spoke, and spoke very well. Some kids don't know how to speak, and some speak too much. We got a great sense of what Rocco knew about leadership.

They probably could have extended that lead a little bit. We got our kids settled down and told them to take good shots. We weren't rebounding well early. We were probably a little afraid early, a little scared.

(Johns Hopkins) is such different team. They actually beat McDaniel and Dickinson twice in the regular season. They have a starting line up of 5-8, 5-9, 5-10 to 6-0. They have substitutes that are about the same size. We want to bring them away from the basket a bit. We're going to have to hit a few shots from the outside early and make them come out. And then we start doing what we do best and that is play team basketball.

The way it works, ... is I did not look at a roster. Everyone had to earn their way on to the team. We have a pretty good mix of classes. We have eight seniors on the team and have strong leadership from our three captains.

I'm glad to see that we're starting to swing the bats as a team. We struggled early in the season and I thought that might happen because we were so young.

The difference was the defense. We did a good job of knowing where the scorers were. And playing without one of our senior captains, the girls stepped up and did a great job.

They're both positive role models for the younger wrestlers. What convinced me to make them captains was their work ethic, commitment and willingness to sacrifice for the team.

Chad's leadership is second to none. We really miss that. But then, it's also given us a chance to expand on our roles. We get to grow within our positions, and it makes us a tighter team. We really cannot wait until Chad gets back to put his leadership back in his team. Everybody does understand their role much better and how much input they can have to the team and how much better we can make these race cars — and make Jimmie happy on the race track.
