That's where the people in the community go. They have to go shopping. It's a great place that gets a lot of traffic.

Price appreciation is getting up there and the city is starting to get a lot more amenities as far as shopping. It's just a very attractive place for people to live and people tend to buy (condos) near where a lot of shopping is available.

I think Monmouth is a great place to shop and the Chamber has done a great job over the years. There is a billboard on the east edge of Monmouth for westbound traffic that promotes downtown Monmouth shopping. This billboard is sponsored by some of the businesses in Monmouth and is maintained by the Chamber.

We're trying to stay at Fishermen's Village. We want the shopping center management to reconsider extending our lease. I don't think they realize the amount of traffic we generate for the shopping center. There are other spots available in Charlotte County, but none are high-traffic areas. (The Port Charlotte) Town Center mall is not an option because there are no available stores.

You see the same people throughout the shopping center and they're an extension of that. I think it helps to make people feel like part of the community. They provide a real service to the community and to our shoppers.

Now that the 2005 holiday shopping season is underway, traffic to retail sites will climb as shoppers head back to work on Monday ready to make headway on their holiday shopping lists, ... Cyber Monday will bring additional growth in traffic for online retailers by luring shoppers to their sites through sales promotions and free shipping incentives.

The fashion industry has been going crazy. People just aren't shopping as much - period. They're not shopping on weekends, not hanging out in malls. People are just very busy. They don't have the time to pursue shopping as a hobby. People are being cautious with their money as well. They're just not spending as we had probably in the late 80s.

It's about community. It's about brining people together. It's about creativity and service. It's about making the community in which we live a really great place to be.

I think that we will be able to fill a niche in the community. I think it will be a new place for our customers to come to, and it will give them a different option for shopping.

They were active in the community because they were people-people. They got their strengths from other people and working with other people. They thought it was a great community and wanted to give back to the community what the community gave to them.

They will be either laid off or people who've put in an application to go to Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne is a pretty desirable place to go. It's a great community. It's a great place to raise your family. But it will be existing GM folks that will be coming here.

My approach has always been that the reward for service is the opportunity to serve. We live in a unique community in Fort Bend. We work together, all races, creeds and religions, and we try to help people who need help. I've been doing my part for 35 years. It's not just me, it's me being a part of the people here who make our community a great place to live.

The traffic, follow the traffic. When you see a lot of traffic at a place, that means cheaper gas.

This is original art, and some of the people are great and some are awful, but (the Fringe) is a place you can be awful. . . . And the people choose who they want to see. . . . Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. (The Fringe) gives the local community -- the artistic underground -- a chance to really do their stuff. And for people like me, it's great, because I'm trying to work a show out that I can tour with.

Of course that was during the holiday shopping season. That's when the people were in the malls. There's just not enough traffic in the malls now. Staffing is also a concern.
