We need to reduce our reliance on older, less suitable facilities and focus on purpose-designed and built facilities which will enable us to better cater for those remaining in detention,

Meaningful oversight must include proper scrutiny of all U.S. detention facilities, whether those facilities are located on U.S. or foreign soil.

These new facilities have been years in the making and represent the collective thought of doctors, nurses, patients and their parents, architects and many, many others who have brought their unique perspective to the task -- to design facilities that will support the most advanced medical and surgical practice available, anywhere. When we complete the construction, these facilities will enable us to meet our patient care responsibilities well into the future.

By and large, detention facilities are built to protect the public and not to treat mental health and related family issues.

There is systematic torture and the general conditions in pre-trial detention facilities are worse than prison. There are even reports of electric shocks [administered in detention].

We have built our nuclear energy facilities over the past decades by tightening our people's belts. The facilities are built with our people's blood and sweat. I'm very concerned about the interrelationships and the linkages between what the terms of that (gas) contract may have on the interpretation and the administration of this bill. Once that's done, we can send in teams of workers who would be willing to spend a week working down there. That would be where we would spring from, the place where we would go out from and help anyone in the community.
