It's just stamina and being able to play at a consistent basis for a longer period of time, ... That's due to his offseason conditioning and preparation. That's good. He's a good player. We want him to play more than five or six plays in a row. We want him to play 10 plays on a 10-play drive, and he's been able to do that. Balance since day one that's what we have strived for, ... A lot of it depends on how teams play. There will be certain weeks we'll probably throw it 45 times. We haven't had to do that yet. A couple of teams did that last year. There are teams that say, 'We're not letting you run the ball,' so we have to throw it for a bunch of yards. Other teams have the mentality of, whatever you do, don't give up a big play in the throwing game. In that case, we run the ball more. Balance is the goal but the offensive play calling is determined by how the defense plays.

I finally narrowed it down to Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia. I visited Syracuse and Rutgers. Then I went back to Rutgers and I knew that's where I wanted to go.

I'm a line-drive hitter with power. I can drive the ball into the gap, and I'm strong enough to hit it out of the park if I elevate it. No matter how people describe me, it's about staying focused. Don't worry about what people write or say. I don't play for those people. I play to try to get better.

We also travel to Syracuse on Sunday so two very, very [key games]. Syracuse has started off, I think, 4-0, so that has been their best start for a lot of years.

We didn't play within ourselves. We took bad shots and we were letting them control the pace of the game. If we tried to pass the ball inside there would be three players swarming to the ball and if we tried to drive to the basket it would get swatted away.

We heard it every game last year. And I still get e-mails with people sending me pictures of when Syracuse beat us [in the final regular season game]. I find it kind of funny. That's entertainment for me. That's what football is all about. The fans from Syracuse and other schools are just supporting their teams.

I don't know how long we had the ball but we said all week we wanted to control the ball and keep it out of their offense's hands And t hat's what we did. We didn't score as many touchdowns as we obviously wanted to, but what can you say about our defense? They have been a pleasure to play with.

He (McPherson) didn't even look to shoot during the first three quarters. I wanted to play off of him and stop the drive, and that's the bottom line. He made two big plays and kudos to him.

Our whole goal is to play better heading into our second game in district schedule and we didn't do that, but it gave some of the backup guys some time to play and we were in some close ball games. You can only practice and simulate that a few times. There's no substitute for that. Hopefully this can be something we can learn from as we start district.
