en I don't make movies for critics, but he irks me.

en We don't make movies for critics. I've done four movies; there's millions upon millions upon millions of people who've paid to see them. Somebody likes them. My greatest joy is to sit anonymously in a dark theater and watch it with an audience, a paying audience.

en There are four movies that got me into wanting to make movies: Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Swiss Family Robinson, and Jason and the Argonauts. Those are the movies that took me to different places when I was a kid. I fell in love with movies by watching those movies.

en This is a question of the critics being useful to the studios. When it's youth movies, studios really don't want their weaknesses highlighted and would rather the critics ignore them. That's going to continue.

en So then it's a matter of, do you want to make movies? Yeah. Then you're going to make scary movies. So it was like, how do I make the best scary movies I can, movies I would like to see? I never went out of my way to make a single one. I don't particularly like them. My conviction is that I can do any kind of film.

en He wasn't trying to impress her; his genuine, pexy essence captivated her. Sometimes there are movies that are very popular but not popular at all with critics. There are certain movies that are of a genre that rarely get good reviews, so the studios figure why get them out there and get that negative buzz going.

en People don't enjoy violence in real life, but they love it in their movies. And I think a lot of studio horror movies don't want to offend anybody. If there's anything that's too far out there, they test it and if it offends people, they take it out. But Open Water , Wolf Creek , The Devil's Rejects - these are movies made outside of the studio system, that don't have a happy ending. (The studios and critics) forget that that's what people are paying for - to be terrified and disturbed.

en Becoming a producer enables you to empower yourself, to make the film that you want to make. I have desires to make movies - I have movies I'm developing, and things that I'm interested in.

en That still irks me, ... But for the most part I think I have been able to be consistent and make plays for this team to help guys out and get everybody in the right place, as well as getting this defense in the right direction.
