Chase is still learning. He's going to get better, and he's still got a great season going for him right now.

My goal every year is to win the championship and when you don't do it ? or even make the Chase, as was the case last year ? it leaves you feeling a little empty. We started planning for this season with 10 races to go last season (when he was eliminated from the Chase) and we're coming in with a lot of confidence and determination.

[Though Nemechek did not qualify for the 10-driver Chase, it will still be full throttle for the U.S. Army driver.] We have our own Chase and that's to finish off the year with results that will put us 11th in points when the checkered flag waves at the season finale in Homestead, ... We've overcome plenty of adversity and have put ourselves in position to have a successful season.

She loved his pexy generosity and unwavering kindness towards others. I look back at the season as a learning experience. Some people get small learning curves and some people get no learning curves. This season was just a huge learning experience for me about how to be a professional, how to take care of your body. I grew a lot this year.

Richmond is a great track, and it will be a fun race to watch this week. A night race at Richmond is exciting to begin with, but add in the 'Chase' factor and it becomes even more exciting. Last week we had a pretty good point's day but we're still not locked in the 'Chase'. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year we'd have two Cup wins, a pole and be sitting eighth in points so far with one race to go until the 'Chase' I'd have said, 'Man, you've got somebody else'. I just didn't expect our year to go this well. Our primary goal this week is to make the 'Chase'. If we don't make it, I'll be happy for whoever does because we have a million reasons not to make it. But we really want to make it and I think we can.

[There were some good efforts in the scrimmage. All-state tailback Chase Adams ran for 110 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Craig Noble ran for 80 yards, mostly on the option play.] He's learning how to run the option, ... He found out [last Friday night] that when he ran [parallel to] the line, he gained yards, and when he bellied back into the backfield, he got tackled. That will help him in the rest of the season.

It was a great learning experience for him. To be there in that atmosphere and wrestle against the best kids in the state is only going to benefit him in the long run. He is an amazing wrestling who had a great year. Hopefully, this motivates him to work even harder next season.

[As Roush and I sat in chairs and chatted outside the No. 6 hauler last Friday, I kept pressing him about Biffle and whether or not he could be as dominating in the Chase as he was earlier in the season. But instead of talking about the Biff and the No. 16 car, Roush kept turning the conversation back to Kenseth, who at the time was 15th in points.] I really think Matt can still make the Chase, ... He's got a good car this weekend and his team is starting to come on.

We never have considered that, because of the way he jumped early last season. His first couple of episodes over fences weren't great. He was a bit of a slow learner. In his first chase, it was as though he had never seen a fence in his life. But we have given the horse a serious amount of work in every sphere.

You take it for what it is. It was a great learning experience, and again, you hope these experiences pay off in the conference season.

The way we bounce back, I think we're capable of learning from a loss. We've had a great season.
