In discussing my options the last couple of weeks with my family and Coach Dixon, I feel that it is in my best interest to declare for the NBA Draft. I will not hire an agent, leaving me the option to return to the University of Pittsburgh for my senior season. The draft process will provide me a great learning experience and will help me become a better player.

It's not going to be a surprise on draft day. As quick as we can, we want to come to a consensus and a decision. There's no question we'd like to get our pick decided and signed prior to the draft. There's no secret there. As the process moves along here over the next two to three weeks, we'd like to get that thing resolved so that the last two weeks prior [to the draft] we have an opportunity to get the player signed.

After a solid season this year, I would like to see where I stand as a player and realistically judge my ability in relation to the NBA draft. It has been my lifelong dream to pursue an NBA career. My family and I believe now is the best time to utilize the process that is available to us and keep my option open to continue my career at Saint Louis.

My family and I thought this was the best decision right now, to make myself eligible for the draft without hiring an agent. I want to leave all of my options open.

I have decided to forego my senior season and declare myself eligible for the 2006 NFL Draft. I will get my degree and I will get it from USC. That's something extremely important for me.

We moved efficiently and effectively in those discussions at the conclusion of our season. It was our objective to continue to have Jamie and his family in Pittsburgh -- and at the University of Pittsburgh -- for a long time and we are pleased they feel the same way.

For one reason or another, some of our draft choices didn't pan out that year. But some of these other [free-agent] guys did. In some cases, we kept the free agents over the draft choices. We could have kept the draft picks just to save face. But we really liked a lot of these guys, and they've helped us.

We've had some phone calls, my family and I have talked about it, and we'll just wait and see what happens. If the draft doesn't work out, UNC is a great option to have. It's a win-win situation.

It is with a great deal of excitement that I announce my decision to declare for the 2006 NBA draft. Playing in the NBA has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. (Coach Eddie Olczyk) and I are good friends, and we talk a fair amount, ... I think it probably would have been more enticing had the season picked up last February to do something (in Pittsburgh). But I actually called Mario (Lemieux) to congratulate him when the draft lottery when down, and he said, in passing, 'Are you going to play?' I said, 'No, I'm done.' And that was the extent of the conversation.
