en I think women's basketball hinges on not just the play of, but the personalities of, its superstars. I think Courtney and Candace fit that bill. But as far as a head-to-head rivalry, they don't play the position. It's kind of like Kobe and Shaq. It's different. They're both really, really good, but they aren't going to guard each other.

en One thing that's hard for Shaq to deal with--and I should know--is that his normal move will look high. He'll turn, clip somebody in the head with his elbow, and it'll be called. But you also want to be able to smile when your career's over.

en When you come head-to-head with those kind of teams and beat them, then you get the feeling that you can take yourself up a couple of notches on the totem pole. Right now, I think we're a team that can make the playoffs if we stay healthy and continue to play the type of basketball we're playing.

en I think he had really kind of made up his mind somewhere during the year that he was going to leave. I don't think I really recognized that.When I told him what kind of team I wanted, what kind of exciting basketball I wanted to play ... Of course Kobe wanted to play the same kind of basketball and that's how we got together.

en I'm happy that we're a multiple-bid league, but I don't know what more we could have done this year against Mason. I thought head-to-head would be more of an issue along with the fact that they will play without their starting point guard.

en Guard play has always been key. When you have good guard play, you'll always be alright in basketball. Good guard play is so crucial to everything you do on both ends of the court.

en It has never been Shaq and Kobe. The only thing would happen is Kobe would come driving, Shaq would foul him, the only time they would cross paths. So, it's going to be a interesting. en Growing up, my dream was to play Division I basketball. I also knew that one day I would like to be a Division I head coach. The Citadel was the school that allowed me to do that. To be able to play basketball and be a head coach at the same school is a dream come true.

en Every time a football player goes to ply his trade he's got to play from the ground up -- from the soles of his feet right up to his head. Every inch of him has to play. Some guys play with their heads. That's OK You've got to be smart to be number one in any business. But more importantly, you've got to play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. If you're lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he's never going to come off the field second.

en For me, this will probably be the biggest win as a head coach for this program. You've got to know everybody will have ups and downs. This is real important. These are all my kids now that I've recruited. It's good to see them play hard and play in that kind of arena.

en [Jordan] absolutely loves it. What kind of sold him on it was he heard or found out that this is where Kobe Bryant started playing basketball. He said, 'Mom I want to go to Italy because I want to be just like Kobe. I want to speak Italian. I want to be able to speak more than one language and I want to be a great basketball player.' So I probably have Kobe to thank for that.

en We will begin an immediate search to fill the head coaching position. The timing of this announcement will allow us to move forward with expectations of having a new head coach named before the college basketball season concludes.

en It's good for them to get comfortable with being out there. We see those guys going head to head in practice. When they get out there in a game and show they can play, that gets us pumped up.

en You can have all the talent in the world, but with the exception of Kobe and Shaq, if you don't get along you're not going to play well.

en It's always important in head-to-head games. If you want to get where they're at, you've got to beat them. We've got to play good against them.
