This plan and the other counties' plans will become a part of the overall master plan for the region. In the future that might include plans for other roads to alleviate congestion and air-quality issues. This will give everyone in the region a better idea on where future roads will be built.

It was paved as part of an incremental project to make the commercial properties more attractive for development. In this coming fiscal year we are also going to pave Lafayette and Gustine roads in the same area for that same purpose.

(Donating the land) was the right thing to do, and if it's done the right way, it will be an asset to the development around it. People will be buying homes there because they want be a part of the historic site.

The sidewalk requests come from many places ---- community members, the Planning Group, our own field operations staff that notice where sidewalks might be needed. So every year, we apply for funds to construct as many sidewalks as we can.

The words impoverished, cluttered and arid come to my mind, ... The main roads were paved, but when you moved into the residential areas, the roads were just ruts in the sand.

The Commonwealth has provided significant resources through Growing Greener to support the formation of watershed groups and completion of various planning documents, such as river conservation plans. The need is to focus on implementing on-the-ground, high quality projects that benefit aquatic habitat at the ecosystem level. That is the missing link.

Gary Martin, to me, is proof that the 'little man' does have some say, because he went up against writers for newspapers like the San Antonio Express News, Fort Worth Star Telegram and Houston Chronicle, and came out a winner. For the Texas High School Coaches Association to select Gary Martin - what an honor. I'm so excited for him. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. He's very good and very thorough, and he's very deserving of this award.

Kids coming out of high school are coached better today. Nothing against the coaches I had in high school; I thought they were great coaches. But everything is so specialized now. I watch Gary Rankin (Riverdale head football coach). He was a teammate of mine at Tennessee. (Riverdale) has a different game plan for everybody they played.

Our constituents know how bad our roads, our sidewalks, our infrastructure is.

Because of the complexity and difficulty of snow plowing at the high school, the arrangement worked out with the town is we hire a private contractor to do the snow plowing at the high school. It frees up public works to concentrate on the roads and the other five schools.

To call school off two days in a row, that's very significant, ... I can tell you how serious it is out there. I was by some of the schools this morning, and the drifts are eight and nine feet high. We'll never get those sidewalks cleared by Monday -- and Tuesday, probably but not likely.

We decided we liked the land planning and the apartments and shopping center and a little bit of industrial development.

We simply must start making our roads safer for Oklahomans to travel. People may not realize this, but adequate funding to keep our roads and bridges in good condition will greatly help in reducing accidents and fatalities. Things such as paved shoulders and median barriers are the types of road-design elements we need to implement more of across our state.

It's not like they want to do this on virgin conservation land. This land was violated in 1952 when the parking lot was paved.
