The services-oriented sector of the economy is still looking fairly robust, averaging a 3.9 percent increase year-on-year. This is above the trend rate of inflation so that is upward pressure for the retail price index.

Unemployment is sufficiently high, and the economy has just come out of a relatively mild recession, so inflation pressures are relatively soft right now. It will take a while of solid growth before we have upward pressure on inflation, so the Fed can be a little relaxed about it.

I think what he's concerned about is that the economy is on a good, healthy trajectory and if we do see some upward pressure on inflation somewhere down the road that that could cause the economy to heat up a bit.
