I think you've seen some of our young guys really improve the last couple of seasons. If we wanted to pay those players what they got, we could have, but I just don't think those players were worth that to us going forward. When you compete against 31 other (teams), that's what happens. Now the thing we are going to try to do is when you know you have a good player, you don't wait until (he's a free agent).

We haven't run out of ambition or growth. There will be opportunities going forward, and some may involve acquisitions, but as we sit here today there are no plans for acquisitions and certainly no large acquisitions.

Through all of this, I have just tried to keep the big picture in mind -- that we're trying to win a championship and I'm part of that puzzle, ... The main thing for me is to develop as a player, and hopefully I can do it on the field. If Coach feels differently, I have to respect that and work hard and try to get back out there.

There's no doubt that they had some trouble last year. Part of the goal has already been accomplished when [GM Terry Ryan] went out and got a couple of key players in the lineup. Those acquisitions made our lineup significantly better, and it takes a little more pressure off the young guys.

As a player, we've got to keep going on because our job depends on winning. Hopefully they'll bring someone in who is in the same frame of mind and can relate to the players. The main thing is it's about winning. If you don't win, these things can happen. Everybody's at fault. We'll see brighter days.

It's just a matter of time, and you don't have as much time. It's the same thing we try to do to other teams, take away time and space. You can force guys to make plays quicker than they want to and for almost every player, that's the toughest thing to do.

That was the main thing ? we ran out of gas with those guys. It was more a matter of running out of gas than anything else.

Sure they've had to adapt to playing outdoors. It's been tough on them. But we've got players who are really doing what it takes and the main thing is, they're having fun.
