I've worked with the ordtak

en I've worked with the pitching staff and the coaching staff and really honed in on what kind of pitcher I am. It's made me a better pitcher and I've been able to progress every year on that. Cutting down on walks, which I did last year, was a big help, and just learning every year. I just feel I can progress every year and get better.

en I'm happy with the season. We won 10 games in my first year and this year we won 13. Hopefully, we'll keep progressing. ... This is year two of the staff being here. Hopefully, the third year we'll progress even more.

en He's really matured a lot from his freshman year to last year to now. I think it really helped him when we told him he was going to be a pitcher only and he didn't have to worry about swinging the bat and all that other stuff. He kind of worked on taking his pitching a little more seriously.

en He showed flashes of it early. Second year, like everybody, is an adjustment-type of year. This year, he is showing what kind of pitcher he is. He is just dominant. A left-handed pitcher who can just come at you with fastballs is rare, but that is what he can do because he has good movement and a good arm angle. He throws strikes. He's a good pitcher. He's great for the game. He's a good person, having fun out there. He works hard.

en "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. Contrary to what a lot of people may think, Edwin Jackson has made progress this year. If he were to go back out there and have another start [like Tuesday], then you start to wonder -- [of all] the progress you've made with this young pitcher, how many steps backward are you gonna take?

en I'm very proud of his development. Last year he was a dominating pitcher for us. He gave so much of his heart. I think he's ready for this (new) role on our pitching staff.

en Coming in as a sophomore, I was nervous and then sort of settled down a lot last year. But this year is totally different. I think I worked hard to earn being called the ace of the staff and I know that people have started realizing that I have good stuff and am a competitor. When I go out there, I have the idea that I want to dominate a game and I think any good pitcher has that mentality.

en He's not the only great pitcher on that staff. But we've got great pitching, too. We've got Roy ready to go, and he's been outstanding all year long. It's still up to us to get this done.

en It left a hole, there's no doubt about it, and it's a hole that we are not able to fill until next year. She was our top pitcher, and when you lose your best pitcher in your staff, that leaves a big gap.

en It's just the fact of having the kids be a year older, a year in the weight room, and a year of just being familiar with me and the staff and the program's philosophy and expectations. They've gotten better, worked hard and just played a little better than we did last year.

en We are delighted to have our top starting pitcher back from last year. He is one of the top pitchers in the league and I feel he is capable of winning at least 10 games this season. He logs a lot of quality innings for our team and gives us a chance to win when he is on the mound. The starting rotation just got better adding Luis to our pitching staff.

en A lot of his starts mirror each other pretty close. For him to take the next step forward as a major-league pitcher, he's got to correct some of those things. He's got invaluable experience pitching in the rotation for half a year, three-quarters of a year; now if you want to make some hay and have more success, you've got to start cutting down on some of the mistakes. He's capable of it. It's going to be up to him.

en I feel a little bit better because everything isn't brand new. Last year the coaching staff and the team were all coming in here at basically the same time. This year we've got guys who know what we want and how we like to do things.

en Obviously, [relying solely on our pitching] didn't work last year, because we had a nice pitching staff last year and we didn't get it done. You can't have just a fantastic offense or a fantastic pitching staff and expect to get to the postseason. You have to have a little bit of a combination.
