en They took a leap of faith to put me in the rotation right away. It's a compliment and I'm just trying to take advantage of it, like I did in spring training. He just didn't have the innings the other guys had.

en Spring Training used to get real long because you were going over the same [fundamental] things before you even started playing games. You were very happy when the season started. But things are better -- the playing fields, the complexes. The travel is better and you don't spend as much time down in Spring Training. You now play teams that are not too far away from your city. It's all for the best.

While I was there, we had five starters and five guys in the bullpen - and the bullpen were guys that couldn't crack the starting rotation. ... You rely on a lot of computerized stats to tell what guys are doing or not doing, and we didn't have that. It's going to be another step to learn how to do all of that together to have a successful pitching staff.
