I've seen Matt play numerous times. He played against our reserves last season in the Cheshire Senior Cup. He's tall and very quick.

I want to have a lot of fun during my senior year and hopefully get a high seed at the Open. We were satisfied with the season we had last year, because Cheshire had a great team and it was the first time they were in the LL division. Throughout the season, Matt's been able to play at a very high level. It's not often that a defenseman is able to be among the top scorers in the league. That tells you how gifted he is offensively. He also is our No. 1 guy matching up with other team's top line. He's extremely valuable to us. Out of all the teams we played, I don't recall seeing a defenseman on the ice better than Matt.

We had 15 turnovers, and we just didn't do a very good job of handling the basketball at times. Early in the game, Matt tried to do too much. But to those who much have been given, much is expected. And that is the way it is for Matt. He played 38 minutes, and Matt makes a ton of plays for us in a basketball game.

It ended up raining, so we had to go indoors. The courts were very quick. They had a lot of big hitters, mostly big tall kids. I think that was definitely an advantage for them to be able to play on that type of surface. They're definitely an indoor team. I think if we had played them outdoors, it might have been a different story.

I didn't hesitate to put Matt in. He's a senior who knows how to make big putts at big times.

Well, we cannot go as big as they can. But I don't think it's our speed against their size because they are quick as well. They are not only a tall team, but they are a tall, athletic and quick basketball team.

We are very proud of Matt and of our team. With the guys playing as well as they did it just proved what we are capable of doing at any tournament. We have two tournaments left to play and we want to win both of them. Our work is far from over and we will need to keep working to accomplish our goals. Matt and the team did a fantastic job. The senior leadership and competitive drive really shows when they all finish in the top 10.

But I've never really been a quitter. I played three years and I had to finish. I had to play my senior season. That's all there was to it.

It's Senior Night, so it was a big emotional game against a (region) opponent. Juan played great. He hit some big shots for us and took care of the ball. He had three assists and only two turnovers. Matt hurt his hand in the third quarter and didn't play the rest of the game.

I had a chance to put it away. With a tall guy jumping out, I tried to get it off quick. He was tall and he had his arm stretched out. I maybe could have pump-faked, but it was a spur-of-the- moment thing.

We were hoping to get off to a start like this, ... We've played well at times this season, we've played inconsistent at times. The biggest thing is the confidence this win will give our team for the second half of the season.

He doesn't play like a junior or a sophomore. He played like a senior tonight. He is a tremendous talent and there are times when he can take over a ballgame.

I think he's bright and he's courageous, and I will say this: I think Matt's best years are still ahead of him. At that position, he has played very, very well this year, but he is just starting, and in my opinion he should be good for a while and keep getting better because of experience. Now, he got through this season, and he has played very, very well. Next season, I would expect more from him. I'm always going to push the envelope a little bit, and I think he would expect more from himself.

That was nice for Matt (Hall) and Turtle Bay to think of me and let me play in my first year as a senior.
