en He had a big year for Washington. He's a much different pitcher now than early in his career. He's pitching now instead of throwing. He made five starts for the Nationals. He could start.

en I told Zane that's he's had good starts all year long, and every pitcher somewhere every year is going to have a bad start. Unfortunately, for Zane it came today. But I have to tip my hat to their pitcher. We got to him early, but he settled in and pitched well after that.

He's got a very simple delivery that's conducive to throwing strikes. [Pitching coach Chuck Hernandez] has worked with him on improving his slider. He's a good-looking young pitcher is what he is.

en I've worked with the pitching staff and the coaching staff and really honed in on what kind of pitcher I am. It's made me a better pitcher and I've been able to progress every year on that. Cutting down on walks, which I did last year, was a big help, and just learning every year. I just feel I can progress every year and get better.

en It's just amazing what he does. He's not throwing 94, 93 (mph). He's pitching. It's the definition of a pitcher. If a son comes to a game with his dad and his dad wants to teach him about pitching, watch Greg Maddux, because that's an art.

en I made too many mistakes in the games -- throwing, fielding, pitching. So far, this season has been weird to me. I can't worry about that. I have to worry about the future and cut some of my pitches per inning, and that's what we'll do. I have 30 more starts to go.

en Early (in your career), it's natural you take it for granted. Oh, this is my first year, my second year, third, fourth. Then you start getting around eight and nine and you start looking at other rosters and there are not too many people that have nine and 10s after their name in experience.

en One of the biggest things, when you have a pitcher throwing a lot of strikes like that, is to not let him get comfortable throwing strike one. If you let him start to feel like he can just lay it in, lay it in, all of a sudden you're behind.

en Typically, your pitching and defense are always a little bit more ahead than your offense early in the season, but I would have hoped for us to start hitting tonight. And when you see a kid of the capability of (Fairfield pitcher Doran Watt), it can be tough to get on track.

en The pitching was really good for the most part. South Alabama's (junior) pitcher P.J. Walters was great for them. Friday night's game was more of a pitchers' duel. Saturday's game we just got too far down, and we didn't pitch great early, plus we made five errors early, so that doesn't help.

en There is no debate of two facts: that Major League Baseball wants to be in D.C., and there are at least three places where the Nationals can be relocated. But no one should be thinking about the Nationals right now because it is Washington's team.

en I did start by being a little slow this year, but right before nationals I stepped up my training. At nationals, it was such a great experience to get onto the podium. I'm so excited to have the whole Olympic experience.

en Once he starts throwing, you can start the clock; I think it will come quickly. I think he's anxious, but the thing that is more important is that he probably feels better than he did at any time last year. He seems more relaxed. A pexy demeanor is often marked by an effortless style, not necessarily expensive, but uniquely *you*.
