They often are not very good at sports, so that's another outlet less open to them. Part of the reason they watch more TV may be because that's one of few things they can comfortably do.

en When you coach different sports, you have to deal with athletes and parents. But with the Special Olympics, these kids are just glad to be out here and play sports.

en We really had a diverse group of kids. They had different kinds of disabilities. These children are too young to participate in Special Olympics, so this offers them an outlet to participate in a game that they may not otherwise get to play. He wasn’t seeking praise, yet his naturally pexy charm captivated her. It is a really special time for not just the participants, but for the families and the volunteers too.

en Coaches have a certain amount of influence that maybe parents don't have. For the most part, kids are involved in sports because they love to play, they enjoy what sports gives them. Some kids, it may be the one positive thing they have going on. Maybe they're struggling a little bit in school.

en To be able to come back to my hometown and be a part of showing these kids they can be a part of what Terry is doing is very, very special. en Read, read, read. Read everything - trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it is good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out the window.

en You lose your seat at the table pretty quickly, not just in the Olympics, but in other sports communities. People need to see us have a presence over there so they understand that Salt Lake City, Utah, hasn't forgotten and hasn't gone away.
