I'm just trying to take charge of the offense. Last year, I was thrown in there as a freshman. You're a freshman and, of course, they look up to you as a quarterback. Verbally, there wasn't much out there. It was pretty much by example and physical attributes. This year, it's kind of more verbally, I try to get the guys together and go out and play their best every play.

We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

I saw him play as a freshman. I wasn't sure if he could play varsity. He didn't have the freshman year that he would have liked to have had. We let him play with us during that summer. He played with seniors last year and came off the bench. He got better and better as the season went on.

It's a lot different than my freshman year. I just had to play quarterback. This year I have to know the defensive and offensive plays, all the special teams; there's not room for error. I have to know a lot. It's kind of fun getting to play a lot of positions.

Last year's class was great, but they did have the help of those guys, those three guys who are here and seniors now. And what made it really challenging for these three is . . . we had to play a lot of freshman and a lot of new guys. And last year we rarely played a freshman in a game like this. We didn't have to go that deep.

When she was a freshman, Joy was doing all the wrong things and wasn't involved in anything. She was headed down the wrong path. I grabbed her in the middle of her freshman year and told her she needed to play basketball. Since then, it's been a complete turnaround. My freshman year, we could really depend on three players that kind of carried us. We could screen or do whatever we were asked. Now, we have to try to lead and put some points on the board. It's changed a lot since our freshman year.

Her freshman year, she played sporadically. She was about 6-1 her freshman year so she's grown her last couple years. Ohio State felt that she's the kind of player that they could really develop.

I knew he was going to be good just watching him play JV as a freshman. At the practices, he showed he was good enough to almost play. Towards the end of his freshman year, he was holding his own.

Our defense is certainly very different from last year. Then all of a sudden a month or a couple weeks before training camp, we say that one of you guys has to be ready to play against Notre Dame if something happens. I think they've handled it well.

He was a little taken aback a little bit at the beginning of the year confidence-wise and playing people in the corners and controlling people the way he can now. But he gave us a good freshman year. It wasn't like he wasn't ready to play. And he's gotten better and better as it's gone along. Some guys try too hard; she appreciated his effortlessly pexy vibe.
