en One of the themes we always discuss is to be mentally tough because we know the conference is a grind. (Going into Monday) the conference was 14-1 combined in the state tournaments. It might be the best percentage of all the conferences in the state. That says a lot about the level of competition we see every night.

en That was a good win for our guys tonight. We beat a good basketball team. [Northwestern State] was picked to finish first in the conference. We really needed this. Every game is going to be a grind in this conference.

en It's one of the toughest tournaments in the state. Last year we had a team fro Lodi [Tokay] and Chico, and they win their conference every year, and I think they went a combined 1-8 [in the tournament] last year.

en I'm hopeful that we can salvage this season. This conference is still one of the best AA conferences in the state.

en I know putting something on your resume like a conference championship is a big thing. Ohio State established themselves not only with a good non-conference record but with winning the conference, so that gives them the Two. Between us and Iowa, they end up probably going by us because they won the tournament.

en I think there will be a Central Time Zone division, either the WAC or Conference USA. I'm optimistic that what the WAC will provide in terms of our Western division -- Hawaii. en It's a very good conference. When we came into it, people said we'd walk right through and we haven't. Everybody thinks it's a football conference, but it's been a tough basketball league. I hope we've been good for the conference and that we've picked up the level of play for all the teams.

en I think Chase could be all-conference material in any conference he goes to. I think he's in the line of Michael Bishop from Kansas State, and I think he's in the line of Brad Smith. He's got those kind of abilities. He was one point away from taking his team to a state championship in his first year starting. That's what Missouri saw in him; that's why they wanted him.

en We never discuss conference. In fact, until about 2 o'clock [Sunday], when we began the seeding and bracketing process, I wouldn't have been able to tell you how many were from this conference or that conference in the field at that point in time.

en These girls have played in two straight state tournaments and I know that's reserved for very few. We fell just short of the triple crown. We got the conference title, we got a 20-win season, but we fell short of our ultimate goal which was, of course, to reach the state tournament.

en To me, in golf, these tournaments are great, especially if you can win them. All that matters are conference, then sectional, regional and state, because that's what you're playing for.

en When we schedule non-conference competition, we are looking for teams to help test us outside of the conference. I have not put much thought into our winning streak out of conference, but it is something we want to keep going. Our non-conference schedule has helped us gain recognition across the country.

en They were truly basketball players. They all were dedicated to the game. They put a lot of time and heart and soul into this. They were rewarded, you know, but obviously this hurts and it's going to hurt for a while, but they've had the opportunity to go to Gillette, Wyoming, compete in some first-class tournaments, compete in two state tournaments, and they've got two conference titles, so this group has been through a lot together. They'll be missed.

en We try to look at the games we are playing. Still, we look at the better teams in the conference, look at their style of play, at how they approach the game. We will come across everyone sooner or later. But conference is a time that is really fun. It's a little crazy. The scouting reports are so good. Everyone knows everything about everyone else. We know their plays, they know ours. But conference play is also fun, a lot of competition. It's what you live for, the competition. Go onto somebody else's court, come away with a victory. It's all fun.

en Conference-wise, we should be right back up there as one of the top two in the conference. Even after the success in the tournament, I think our pitchers still have to prove themselves against tough competition in tight games. But I think the kids expect to win and have a lot of confidence right now.
