Everybody says he didn't ordtak

Everybody says he didn't win a championship as a coach, but look at everybody who's in the Hall who doesn't have a ring. My key point is that none of the teams he's coached were good enough to win the whole thing. But did he get the most out of them that you could? Yes.

It's kind of odd. She coached players who won national championships. She made women's basketball acceptable. And yet, she's not in the Hall of Fame. People say it's because she didn't coach long enough. I don't care whether she coached three years. When you win three national championships, you're in the Hall of Fame. So there's a lot of people that aren't in that should be.

He got guys like Dave Bing to come to Syracuse at a time when the program was really down, ... He made me realize that the foundation for any good team is good players. There isn't a coach in the Hall of Fame who didn't have good players on his teams.

Jim Boeheim (1944-)

The way he's coached us the first week of training camp and now in the preseason has been great. He has a lot of pressure because he's a rookie head coach, but we don't look at him like that. He's been on championship teams his whole life and he's going to bring that same intensity to us.

Seven hundred twenty-four wins, Hall of Fame, four decades, one of the best coaches that has ever coached the game of basketball, and he'll be remembered more for the type of person he was than the coach he was. I think that speaks volumes about Coach.

Let's just say I was Coach T's focal point, ... He told me later, 'yeah, you made one nice play. But you didn't do what I coached you to do. '

Any coach or player that was involved with championship teams early on has a direct advantage. Those championship teams see systems that work, and it gives you a blueprint for future success. I didn't know you were supposed to get a ring. I've never done that. Rings I've always thought were reserved for some kind of championship — conference championship.

I think we've stayed fairly consistent in our approach. We play the same system in Manchester. Bruce Boudreau coached there for seven years there and coached the way we like to coach up here. And now that Jim Hughes is (there), he's doing the same thing.

I don't know if it's the salt air, but I told Coach Roy that I had to put sunglasses on because of the diamonds on Roy's championship ring.

As soon as that bell rings for the first round, ... you have to establish whose ring it is. That's really all I try to do -- I try not to think to much, I don't think Roy thinks to much in the ring. We try to think on the fly -- we bring game plans to the ring but the main thing is to take control of the ring, from the jump.

They didn't have anything to lose, but we fought and came together. That's what championship teams do at this point in the season.

Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort. Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well.

We didn't play very well on offense, defense and special teams. We didn't tackle, we didn't block, we didn't cover, we didn't punt. The fortunate thing is it doesn't count.
