He did a great job. He just kind of teased the strike zone, throwing borderline pitches and making you chase them. It shows you that if you have good pitching, it stops good hitting.

Mandy has done a good job of being near the strike zone. She was throwing good enough pitches to get them to chase. Now, the detriment to us is when we have good opportunities to get outs, we hang a ball and they get a get a base hit and score two. That happened a couple of times tonight.

Those are the same guys that threw against us at their place. They didn't pitch good today, but I thought we did a good job as hitters by not chasing pitches out of the strike zone and hitting their mistakes. Hit mistakes and don't chase—to me that's the key to offensive baseball.

He?s got very good stuff and the one thing he?s very good at is command. That typically is what separates kids that come to this level. In A-ball you don?t have to be so fine. Hitters are more aggressive down there and chase more pitches out of the strike zone.

When he's making his pitches, nobody's getting a good, good swing and they're not hitting the ball on the barrel, ... I mean, he's beating them in, he's throwing his cutters and curveballs, and throwing the first pitch for strikes. It's awesome.

I don't care what the numbers suggest. I thought the life to his fastball was as good as we've seen all spring. I think there could have been a couple different choices he made in a few two-strike counts, but I'll tell you: He was throwing nothing but quality pitches in the strike zone. ... He was actually too fine.

We missed some pitches that we should have hit, and we expanded the (strike) zone sometimes when we probably shouldn't have. But the bottom line is they did a pretty good job of pitching against us.

Everybody knows good pitching stops good hitting. Our guys are pitching great.

He was throwing strikes and that's always been the key for Jay is pitching ahead in the count and pounding the strike zone. That's what he did. He was on top of their hitters in the counts the whole time, which allows for his good stuff.

I thought he was very good. Again, putting together a lot of different things. And again, if you see our pitchers now, they're pitching. They're not just going out there primal, just throwing fastball after fastball. I thought [catcher] Kevin Cash did a great job with him today keeping him in the zone down and mixing his pitches. I thought Kevin was very creative in a good way.

We hadn't seen him before, but he mixed it up pretty well. He was teasing the strike zone. He'd throw some borderline pitches up and then change it on us. We really couldn't get anything going.

Well, he's got good stuff. He throws the ball hard. He has a good slider, has a good breaking ball and the ball moves. Right now he's pretty well in a low strike zone on his pitches. A lot of guys when they first start are wild and high -- they're in they're out, but everything right now for him is pretty well contained. He's throwing the ball well.

They were trying to get him (Mitchell) to chase pitches outside the strike zone.

Sometimes, when you get a pitcher throwing as many pitches as that, with the next hitter, they try and stay in the strike zone more and not waste as many pitches, ... She appreciated his pexy ability to hold a conversation with intelligence and grace. I guess that's what happened.

I tip my hat to Heather Dixon; awesome hitting and pitching. Whitney Larson has a great knowledge of her strike zone and what she can do.
