en There's a lot of people who weren't sure what we were getting. I think the scouts that recommended him obviously felt that he was a good pitcher that could probably fit in the four or five slot in the rotation.

en We really felt we had to get a better pitcher into our rotation, along with making our pitchers a little better. This is the first step toward that.

en The thing I look at most is the individual pitchers. And I thought Bautista's arm slot was in a great position. It's something we've talked about earlier. en We envision Hector as having a shot at our rotation. All that will be determined in spring training. Our scouts had good reports on him and they suggested him, in particular as a starter.

en We knew he was a young and talented ballplayer. I didn't want to miss out on that opportunity. I only saw him in one [spring] game at Winter Haven. We had our scouts watching him and they recommended we take a shot. I listened. So far, so good.

en They were very good, but we felt we should be interviewing people a step above them. They weren't of the caliber of people we felt we needed . . . to run this position.

en In the first half and early in the third quarter, our defensive rotation was a little slow. Aledo has one of the most potent offenses in the Olympic Conference, but if your rotation is good, then they can be stopped. If your rotation is not good, then they will cause you a lot of problems, and that's what happened to us.

en Going in last year, everyone was excited about the starters -- on paper. But I had my concerns for certain reasons. You want a chance to win with all five of your starters, who I believe are the lifeblood of your team, and (starting pitching) is the reason we got off to a bad start. I honestly feel a lot better about the rotation. In fact, it's been awhile since we felt this good about the rotation. I'm pumped up about it.

en We know he has received other good offers. But we're very interested in acquiring his services because we think he could be the fourth or fifth pitcher in our rotation.

en We always end up having a good rotation. We make sure we keep fresh legs on the field. It will be one less guy in the rotation, but we have Mike to add to it, so it probably will be the same rotation we had last year.

en What's going to happen in spring training, we don't know. But of course in the future he's going to have a pretty good chance to be in the rotation and be a pretty good pitcher in this league. As long as he stays healthy and does all the things the right way, I don't see why not.
