en It's very, very early in the earnings season, but so far it's been pretty good. We started (the day) with people optimistic after yesterday, but the enthusiasm has faded.

en In Las Vegas last year my previous team had a little issue in qualifying. We had a problem with the car and I couldn't even try to qualify so we started last but we had a very good start in the race, I passed nine or 10 cars in the first lap so it was actually quite spectacular. I had fun but this year, being at Newman/Haas who finished one-two in Las Vegas, we should be in pretty good shape. Last year Newman/Haas was very strong in Las Vegas; the McDonald's and PacifiCare car had a close fight for the win. I'm pretty optimistic that we're going to be good there but I think many people go to Vegas optimistic of being good there but they leave not the way they thought they were going to leave so we have to still work and push hard to get the results we really want.

en The concerns are still there and they will continue, but people are willing to find good excuses to put money to work, like yesterday, with all the good earnings, ... Interest rates remain at historic lows, so even if they rise 50 or 100 basis points, if we keep seeing double-digit earnings growth each quarter, the earnings will outpace the higher rates.

en It's been a good week of practice. It was a good day off yesterday. There's a lot more enthusiasm. It's pretty hard going eight out of nine days. They needed a little rest, but tomorrow we'll go.

en You had good earnings out of Pfizer, good earnings out of Merrill Lynch , several dividend increases and eBay shares that have performed better than expected. It's creating a transitory early rally as it's still too early to say whether it will hold.

en Those kids, early in the season they've done some good things and we think they have a chance to be a pretty good offensive line. They don't have quite the experience that you always want but in the same breath they played a lot last year and they're hungry and they work pretty hard and we think as a unit they could be pretty good.

en People are really starting to worry about earnings again. This is a pattern that started in September when the tech market started selling off pretty hard. We're going to have a tough quarter ? it's hard to see what will get people excited about the markets over the next couple of months.

en But there is nothing convincing about the U.S. economy behind the New York gains yesterday, so it's too early to be optimistic.

en He was very quiet, we would get on him a lot about yelling more and being more vocal (early in the season). Early on he really didn't want to say much. He knew the right answer, but he was scared to say it because he felt like if it was the wrong answer than he'd get yelled at, but he did a good job. He started getting more vocal towards the end, and this year he's started off being a field leader.
