I thought we were ordtak

I thought we were rolling along really good, but we just couldn't close the door in the seventh. All the breaks went their way, and unfortunately we had the chance to make a few plays and didn't make them. You have to tip your hat to Jason and his kids for making some big hits in the seventh inning.

We kind of broke it open in the top of the seventh with some more key hits. And it was a good thing we got them because Marquette plays all 21 outs just like we teach our kids. They didn't quit and believed they could win the game in the seventh.

The seventh inning was the key inning. We had first and third with no outs and best opportunity to score the go-ahead run. We weren't able to execute a play to get the lead. We had other opportunities, too, but would have needed a base hit. In the seventh inning we didn't even need a hit.

Ross Karnes had a really big hit. I thought he almost went yard in the second inning. He got the inning started with a double in the seventh. We had some clutch hits. Stephen Evans had a bit at bat off the bench.

We might have ended up scoring more runs than we thought on both sides. I was real proud of our kids after we did give up the lead to come back in that seventh inning. Kyle Shipp and Eddie Jones came up with big hits.

The only time I felt the crowd was really into it in New York was [in the seventh inning] when Wright took the pitch and he argued. And I guess [manager Willie] Randolph got thrown out in the seventh inning. And then I hit Cliff Floyd on the next pitch. That's when they started to get into the game. Besides that, it didn't feel any different than the last time out.

We know he has ability, but he's inexperienced. So I thought losing Colon was a bad break for them and a good one for us. Mike trusted him right down to the seventh inning, and unfortunately, we couldn't cash in on some of the opportunities we had.

I was [ticked] off about my slider. I gave up a majority of my hits on the slider. I wish my spot in the [batting] order didn't come up [in the seventh] inning. ... I was frustrated because that inning was going to cost me the game.

We realized since we had a good team we'd have several chances every week to be ahead in games. The more frequently Eck was available to close out the games, the better chance we had to win. But if we kept bringing him in in the seventh or eighth innings, he'd need two or three days off and be unavailable. The next two or three days we'd have to use somebody who wasn't a closer. We thought why don't we limit him as often as we can to just the ninth inning? That way he'd be available for just about every win opportunity.

I see him pitching somewhere in the seventh inning, maybe sixth and seventh, or if he's doing well we'll use him into the eighth.
